Potassium in UOA

I recently had my previous fill UOA, and I am noticed something I havent noticed before, and thats Potassium in the oil. I wouldnt be so concerned but both the VOA of TGMO (the oil that was tested) and Pennzoil Platinum (the oil that was used before) both list 0 as the reading on Potassium. So what gives? Is this a small coolant leak? I sure hope not.

4 ppm potassium with 4 ppm sodium is not anything. You need much higher numbers to declare coolant. If you even had a small leak you would be way up there near 3 digit ppm.

This is due to all your 3K OCI's on the most expensive synthetics on the market.

Seem unlikely at 4PPM on no other elements typically found in coolant, but you may want to change the head gasket anyway--cheap insurance and all...

A common road treatment in winter is potassium chloride (magnesium and calcium are also used).

Did they treat your roads this year? It was a bad winter.


Looks like you could easily double your oil interval too. Once a year in the Fall.

No they did not treat our roads this year...I just dont understand where it could be coming from when the VOA has no potassium in it to begin with.
