Post your Hybrid Gas Mileage

Just bought a 2012 Prius and haven't driven it enough to know the fuel economy yet. From what you have posted it appears you are getting better than most. Do you have any thoughts why you get better fuel economy. City or highway driving? Tires? Oil? Thanks

I keep the physics of energy conservation in mind more consistently that most drivers do.
My travel mileage is roughly half long-distance trips and half local suburban and rural trips of typically 14 to 20 miles one way. I try to avoid very short trips.
Normal OE-size 15" tires, inflated a little above Toyota's suggested pressures. Oil used in the ~114k miles since I bought it has been 3 oil changes (by dealer) of Toyota 0W-20, one change of Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20, two changes of Quaker State 5W-20 synthetic, and all others Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20. It doesn't consume much oil---although many Prii do, by the time they reach this mileage.

Yes, if you take advantage of them, and as long as you don't need to brake, moderate hills can facilitate better gas mileage than level terrain does, especially in a hybrid that allows coasting with engine off.

2021 Wrangler Sahara 4xe (PHEV): 19.6 mpg when not charging, 30 mpg to 117 mpg when charging overnight. It's perfect for my needs.

2025 Tacoma 4x4 hybrid. Daily average is somewhere between 20 and 25 mpg. I have not yet figured out its sweet spot.

I’m very curious as to what kind of MPG the new 2025 Civic hybrid would get. As I have mentioned, my long term averages in my 2016 2.0L Civic are pretty incredible. Even in one of the coldest winters we’ve had in decades I am still averaging over 44 MPG (and this display is only slightly off)

Judging by my experience with my 2024 CRV and my 2025 Accord hybrids your real world gain would be about 4-5 mpg.
The transition from EV to hybrid is so seamless is so well balanced and smooth it's a engineering marvel . No alternator, fan belts and all the noise that comes with those items is nice . Quietest vehicle I have ever driven . And I've had some real high end vehicles .

I don’t think the payoff is that soon, though it would vary per type of vehicle. Hybrids can have a different performance characteristic, which can be part of the buyer interest. It is a radical change, for instance in Toyotas hybrid AWD system and daily handling/feel.

I bought my Wrangler used and expect to keep it for a minimum of 8 years, so recovery costs due to it being a PHEV didn't factor in to my decision.

We bought a RAV4 hybrid last month and it averages 36-38MPG. Tires set to 38PSI and happy with the savings at the pump!!

Nice. I’ll be interested to hear your review. My 29yo Tacoma 3.4l v-6 gets a consistent 20-22mpg during the summer and 18-19 during cold months. At 293k it shows no sign of slowing down. Still on the original clutch! The T-O bearing is starting to sing a little.

The cars of these days incl are very thin metal wonder if other car companies have found high strength light weight steel. My RAV4 could fly if it went over 100MPH... its so flimsy and poorly made for $45K

Toyotas have always been a little tinny , body panel wise .
