Saturn 1.9s go into serious knock retard mode in the zone between 195 & 221'F... from thermostat to electric fan temps. The owner's manual even suggests higher octane fuel when the outside air is warmer than 90'F.
I can speak from personal experience... when it sits in traffic and I have no rad airflow... she gets doggy! I have noticed with this car and other GMs that GM manages to get the most possible spark advance, and use it efficiently.
