After visiting this site for about a month, I have setup my strategy on doing an AutoRX cycle on all 3 cars over the summer. I have a 92 Cherokee 4.0L 155k (sludge monster getting a double dose of ARX), 04 Dodge Neon 2.0L 18k, and a 02 PT Cruiser 2.4L (non Turbo) 54k. I have ordered the AutoRX for all, and have stocked up on Havoline dino and PureOne's for each cycle. After the cycles, I plan to use MaxLife 5w30 in the Jeep, and put the two Mopars on Pennzoil Platinum 5w or 10w based on season (the PT did not like M1, hence the choice for PP). My question is, should I take the Mopars directly to the Full Synthetic right away, or run a Semi Synthetic to transition for one OCI? I plan to do an AutoRX maintenance for all 3 on each OCI after the rinse, but I didn't know if going from the dino directly to synthetic would affect the seals or "shock" the system in some way. Any advice would be appreciated....

Yes after the rinse you can go straight to synthetic oil without a problem.
Correct; no need to gradually transition to syn. There will be a little dino left over on the first use of syn anyway, which is not a problem.
Why is the Jeep a sludgemonster? The 4.0 isn't known to be one; but the double ARX is a good plan anyway. I would use 10W30 or 5W40 instyead of 5W30, though.
I don't really have a good answer. I bought it with 136k on it, and have run Supertech Full Synthetic until recently. But after finding this site and getting curious, I stuck my finger in the drain hole in the pan and it is full of crud. A visual inspection through the fill hole without removing the cover is not good either. However, the manual I have says 5W30 year round and 7500k OCI, so that's what I was going by.
Well, I don't own a Jeep, but from what I've gathered is the 4.0 likes thicker oil, hence the recommendation of 5w-40. Valvoline makes a 10w40 High Mileage oil. I think that would be a good choice...
My manual says 10W30 "preferred", which is what I've always run, though I may try a 40 soon.

The neon and PT cruiser will love Mobil 1 5w30, and the jeep ought to do well with rotella syn 5w-40.
Go for it! Just run a shorter interval your first time.

It's my original 1996 Cherokee owner's manual.
My haynes manual lists many weights that are okay, based on temp, from 5W30 to 20W50 and everything in between.
While 5W30 is listed there, I wouldn't feel good using it.
I seem to recall that Ohio felt kinda cold in the winter, maybe a 5W40?

the 4.0 inline 6 is not a sludge monster. this engine is like that dang battery bunny. keeps going and going and going. I see a ton of them around town and out of all of them only saw 2 that burned oil. so must be a tough lil engine. if you have sludge. then its from the prev owner not maintaining the engine. and in that case any motor will sludge.
I don't remember if I read it here or on the Auto-Rx forum, but it was suggested that if you're treating a leak problem (which is not the case here) you should do the first two post-treatment OCIs with dino in order to give the seals the best chance of success.
hi, i have run jeeps for years, definately not sludge monsters. could be combo of lots of short trip, or lack of consistent OCIs, and lastly previous owner not doing required miantance, i would recomend ARX and use 10w30 or 10w/40w for hi mileage, these things can easily run for at LEAST 250k miles when properly maintined, also running a 5w30w is good for winter, but as engine is OLD design 10w30 is fine unless you regurlarly see at least 10 below temps for long periods...................good luck......
