Positive E-Core report.

STP# 3614 removed from friends 04 PT Cruiser non turbo.

3900 miles on filter.

The can was pretty thick, I had a little trouble grinding through it.

The filter sat in my drain pan for over a month and still had quite a bit of oil still in it. Drainback valve was soft.

The filter pleats were packed very tight and reasonably spaced. No breaks or open spots in the media.

The endcaps we are worried about were still intact. I had to use plyers to rip them off.

The plastic center tube did not melt or change shape.

This girl gets in this car on cold mornings. Starts it, backs out of the driveway and it's ON!

WOT @ every Stop sign, light etc and the filter held up.

This filter was in much better shape than the new S8A I cut up a few months ago.

Sorry no pics. No digi cam and mom will kill me if she finds cut up oil filters on her scanner!

Thanks for going to the trouble to cut one apart and report back, Chris. One empirical report is worth a dozen half-baked opinions any day.

Given the driver you may not have known, but did it seem like the ADBV was holding? That was one of the concerns a lot of people have had, how well the valve would seal to the element end.

I'm not surprised the center support tube was OK. It's not a real tough application for the right kind of material.

I cut open an e-core STP from my dads auto-rx'd van after the clean cycle. I don't see what everyones worried about, it was built like a tank. Caught a lot of gunk, can was tough as nails. Center tube was plenty sturdy, etc.

I have used mom oven to heat heads!!! SHe was not happy about the lingering burnt oil/solvent smell int he kitchen! I used the wifes dishwasher to degrease a rifle stock. Wife could care less she is a country girl and knows that a manss got to do what a mans got to do!!!

I've used my dishwasher many times to clean bullets before I moly coat them. I've also cleaned keyboards and assorted other things in it.

You suppose that's why I'm not married anymore??

This may sound crazy, but when I was a deputy I used to put my service revolver in the dishwasher to get all the powder residue off. Works really well. Gun was a S&W model 64 .38 spl.

I just cut open an Autozone valucraft 3614 filter and I don't see any problems with the ecore design.
I put about 4000 miles on this filter and everything is intact. The end caps took quite a bit of force to peel off and the ADBV is still soft.
I have no problems using these filters as long as it's cheaper than FRAM
