Porsche Macan

Guys:

My daughter is considering a Porsche Macan as her car (2012 BMW 335i) is giving a lot of trouble. Has anyone had any experience with Porsche Macan or Porsche's in general?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Basic powertrain pretty solid but like any European luxury brand, it's all the other things that will begin to cost a lot after the warranty expires. Power seat in my Mercedes was acting up. One of the drive cables was loose. Made some adjustment and it was fine. I'm sure if I took it to a dealer, they would tell me to replace the entire seat adjuster for $1700 plus labor.

I would definitely check out well known consumer guides for insight into how they fare for repairs, maintenance costs, etc. If they are like any other German luxury/sports car, they have very specialized systems that are not easily repairable by a corner auto shop and they typically cost far more than one would expect the repair to cost. You would not want to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire by going from BMW to Porsche.

I'd only buy a certified used unit; the PDK transmission can be failure prone and recently I've read about oil leaking from the cam chain case which is traced to failing aluminum (!) retaining bolts snapping off in the block. Repairing that is an engine-out exercise.

I do know that if you pick up one with the pccb brakes they aren't downgradeable to the steel rotors.

Porsche any of them Must be maintained religiously! if not your wallet will bleed a lot, even with regular maintenance it will bleed.
If one thinks MB is expensive wait till you have a Porsche. OTOH you'll enjoy driving excitement everytime you sit in it.
This is generally NOT a car that appeals to women, way too technical.

Im guessing the 35 is having fuel injector/HPFP/carbon buildup issues. Check to see if theres any extended warranties on any issues you have, you might be surprised if theyre covered.
Macans are very nice trucks, however they can be expensive to maintain. Plugs every 40k, 8.5 quart oil changes. Any adaptive suspension really gets expensive. Like the Panamera, we are starting to see shocks become common repairs. A few of my customers have some pretty serious oil consumption with the 3.0t engines, just about 1 q per 900 miles.

Does the Macan actually have a PDK transmission... or does it have a conventional torque-converter based automatic? By comparison... I guess the Cayenne, it (in all forms) I think has a conventional automatic.

Don't overlook the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Can be a really sweet ride. The Limited X trim looks killer.

How many miles on the F30? My F22 has only needed an auxiliary fan replaced(under warranty) in nearly 55k miles; the N55 has been absolutely flawless on both street and track.

Sorry, cancel that. The Macan DOES have a PDK.

It's a solid car. Heck, even Consumer's Reports recommended it, and I read on Bitog that they hate German cars...

I looked at the them, ended up buying a Golf R instead. If I had to drive a CUV, this would be the one. I've had a chance to drive on a fair bit, and it's an impressive vehicle. Yes, maintenance cost will be higher than a Rav4, most likely.

Plenty of milfs around my 'hood seem to pilot them willingly and appropriately. Generally.

Those are N54 issues. HPFP can also be an issue on some N55 engines, but BMW NA usually have some deal or will throw extended warranty.
Water pump in N55 could have an issue, the bigger the vehicle the shorter is lifespan.

Buy a Asian SUV and save some money on repairs. In 5 years she will have $20,000+ in repair costs savings.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Although it doesnt matter why the person wants to change cars, I am curious as to problems with 335 as well.
