Not sure - maybe this is a South Carolina thing. We have some gas station brands taking over around here that are very South Carolina Focused.

Biggest is called Spinx, headquartered in Greenville SC, and have the most stations there. Best I can tell they haven't left the state yet. I would guess they have at least 100 stores looking at their map. There big stores. Most have a kitchen serving fast food, etc.

Next Contender is Enmarket. There based in Savannah GA and seem to be focusing on S. Georgia and the SE half of SC. They likely have 50 stores. There building a couple more here currently.

Another one is Parkers. Also headquartered in Savannah, seem to be chasing the same region as Enmarket. Some of their stores have a hot food kitchen, so there more the style of Spinx (which likely copied QT, which we also have here now).

Latest is a place called Refuel. Its based out of Charleston and I would guess they have about 20 stores all around Charleston. Unlike the above 3, they sell branded gas - I have seen Exxon and Shell gas at their stores.

Anything like this near you? Looking for "local only" types of chains?

Just came across Enmarket on a recent trip. We stopped at one to use the bathroom and the entire street in front of the station was roped off with police presence haha. Something must have happened across the street. Also the sink didn’t work. The store seemed fine though.

Starting to see a bunch of Sheetz here….
That's good for you. Sheetz was started in the 50s in Altoona Pa and is still a family owned business. They really expanded in the early 2000s and were some of the first to get touch screens. A great success story.

We have a local convenience store chain here called Gilligan's. 5 around the greater Prescott area and a few in Phoenix and apparently a couple in Montana. Top Tier gas at good prices and the stores are clean if a little sparse on merch.

Irving Oil. They're a big multinational (ok, Canadian) company with other interests but they run a chain of gas stations up here.

Humorously, they've tried branding the convenience stores anything other than "Irving." They've tried Blue Canoe, Rusty Lantern, Mainway, Circle K. But people stubbornly keep calling the place "The Irving."

Ah Sheetz, it's like a religion to us here in PA. :ROFLMAO:

There's a "battle" in between Sheetz, WaWa, and Rutter's in PA. I do notice there's a bunch of WaWa's popping up in my part of PA. I might be shootin' out the hip here, but I thought there used to be some gentleman's agreement where Sheetz and WaWa wouldn't infringe on each others area. Now in 2025 they're strategically placing them right next to Sheetz locations.

Dont think there's any Sheetz in the Philly area. There's one on Rte. 40 in Cecil County MD. Wawa is everywhere in PA and NJ, Delaware, MD.
Royal Farms is popping up more and more but Wawa is easily the biggest of them all. They're in Florida, TN, etc ...
They still have stores without gas too

I almost forgot, we got some Rural Farms popping up in my area across the border in Maryland. My area is just warehouses and gas station chains :ROFLMAO:

Stewie (Stewart Spinx) started his enterprise in 1972 at the corner of Laurens Rd. and E. Washington St. in Greenville, which is where the Spinx Training Academy now is. I pass by there at least once a week when headed downtown. New station across the street sells fuel and typical fare now. The ones with the kitchens have really decent food, and the fried chicken is superb. Seriously. All are pretty clean and well run. They do the discount per gallon for signing up with SpinXtras linked to a bank card etc. We have 3 within the corporate limits of my city and I know all the staff (most are still there) as I used to provide "security" while working the night shift, and would hang out at them often. I fill up there from time to time as all stations around seem to compete within a couple cents of one another, and I have become way less brand specific these days. 93 Premium (which I run in the Passat) used Afton's Hi-Tec detergent additive and was rated a Top Tier fuel. Stickers advertising Hi-Tec on the pumps are now gone, but fuel is still TT.

Stewie now dabbles in real estate, but is still in charge of the whole operation. Where he stepped on his manhood was when he went toe to toe with QT. They had an agreement some years back that if Stewart stayed in his SC sandbox, and didn't expand into GA, QT would stay out of SC. Well, ole Stew, just couldn't resist and opened stations in Toccoa and Carnesville GA. Wasn't long after that, QT came to SC and absolutely crushed Spinx as the number one large chain operated gas station/stores in the state. QT went as far as opening stations right across the street in most cases from an established Spinx location, which was real payback. Spinx really had to step up their game to stay in competition, but didn't quite make it IMHO. QTs are much better in every facet when compared to Spinx, even the bathrooms are much cleaner and smell better. Don't know if there are any Spinx in GA anymore, but do know there is one in Highlands and a couple in Cashiers NC as Mr. Spinx has a big fat sweaty mansion in the Highlands area.

I've never noticed any difference in different gasolines from different stations. Costco is allegedly Top Tier and I do fill up there routinely because it's convenient and the least expensive in our area of PA(Chester County outside Philly) but I've filled up at the Liberty Gas which is also a Vape/ Smoke shop, a current day Sinclair on 322 in Swedesboro NJ, USA Gas ...another vape shop type place...both cars, no difference.
