It creates that smelly sock smell. I agree it seems anti-intuitive that increasing moisture doesn't make it worse but I think it just has to do with getting fresh air through there and not really the moisture content.

It might matter more that I park with the fresh air vent open and not in recirc mode since that is when the air really sits. I haven't tested that theory yet but I will now that I think about it. When I was getting those problems, I think was parking with everything still in recirc mode overnight.

Unless you have a absolutely perfectly sealed vacuum(control) system the system's servos likely default to defrost mode after a few hours...

It's only common sense that recirculating and cooling cabin air that's 72-75* vs humid ambient air that's maybe 90*+ would be a noticeable difference in register temp... Professional Air Conditioning techs judge a system's efficacy by the differential in temp of air into system vs temp drop of output air, not by actual register temp...

The odor issue CAN be helped by turning the recirculate feature off a few seconds before you turn off the engine. You have to turn it to Normal and wait for the velocity of the air flow to change. Then you will know that the air will flow through. IME Ford's are somewhat slow to open the air flaps.

If you do that air will circulate through the system even when parked, and help dry out some of the moisture that is souring. Works on my truck. If I forget the next morning I get a few seconds of musty smelling air.
