Pond project update......fish added

Need alligator snapping turtles for the mix!
Friend and his wife were out fishing one hot day.

She decided to hang her feet in the water off the boat.
One latched on to her foot. Took a few stitches.
Last year I saw one with about 24" shell. This year the biggest is 14" so far. At least 4 or 5 different kinds of turtles in the pond. Nobody fishes it so it's the only thing that keeps the fish count down. They eat the algae too when it's fresh.

I've got a lot of trees in groupings with wild growth around them. Excellent mosquito and tick habitat. But also great for birds who eat the mosquitos and ticks. Only time mosquitos are a problem is after a recent heavy rain and the brood hatches faster than the birds can eat them.

20 years ago they use to aerial spray the neighborhood at $20 a person. I noticed after spraying all the birds leave. Then the mosquitos came back after about a month. They quit as some didn't want to pay and they can't hardly keep the properties separate.

But I'm really surprised that the mosquitos are not bad here. It's been pretty dry the last couple of years and I know it's been so bad before I could barely go out to read the rain gauge with out a mask.

You'd know all about risking life and appendages.

Would love to see the pond and some turtles
