It is and it's coming. There's nothing more assured than death and taxes.
I am not one to justify one problem for another. There are numerous vices that are a huge cost to society. Smoking is a bad one.

Almost mid 40's here, and I don't really drink anymore , I might have one or two drinks a year if that, I probably didnt drink at all during my 30's, I didnt even drink on my wedding day( nor did my wife) I spent a good part of my 20's drinking and that lead to me not wanting to drink anymore. I can't remember the last time I was in actual stand alone bar, its been at least 15 years.
Just for the sake of context: I drink because I enjoy it, not to get drunk. And there is a lot to enjoy. Many of the comments and attitudes expressed in this thread are hugging the notion that a drinker is someone in a toga at a fraternity party or a flat-out alcoholic.
That's true, for many behaviors, including poor drivers, but a different discussion, outside of the context of the OP's response.
We, as humans, are imperfect beings, and despite being the smartest animals, that will not ensure our fate will not meet an end at some point, including as a species.

Good. I hope it gets even lower. I dealt with 20 years of alcoholic brawls and dysfunction growing up and wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
Actually I was replying to your post about smoking, not the OP, but spot on regarding other behaviors.
You are right; everything has a life cycle. Current thought is the Universe is about 13.8B years old; as homo sapiens we've only been here about 300K years.
I was reading about researchers at the University of Georgia who recently analyzed a meteorite that crashed through a Georgia home's roof and found it to be about 20 million years older than our Earth. This particular meteorite, named the McDonough meteorite, is estimated to have formed 4.56 billion years ago, while Earth is believed to be 4.54 billion years old.
Fascinating stuff, IMO.
