While less alcohol consumption is a good thing, I do wonder if any other bad habits replaced it.
Not gonna hear about a bunch of fights, domestic violence, debauchery, and broken homes/families/relationships as a result pounding energy drinks and coffee on the daily though. And yet they'll plow down several energy drinks laden with caffeine and sugar ... Or load up on grande sized extra mocha choco-holic whipped fat latte's ... And munch on chips, etc that are just nothing but processed high-calorie/low-nutrition crap.
Diabetes has been on the rise since the late 70's, with each generation. It's generally age related; the older you get, the more prone to be diagnosed with it.
In this graph you can see that folks below 44 have a fairly steady rate of diagnosis. But as you age, the trend lines are staggering.
So anyone who's 20-something today will have a lot to answer for in 40 years.

And then there's obesity ... also on the rise significantly over the last several decades. The "Obese" folks are really gaining ground, obviously. Oddly, both "overweight" and "extremely obese" haven't changed much at all in decades. While I agree it's wrong to "fat shame" people, it's also not good to go along with their delusional viewpoint of being really fat is OK.

So, in summary, the youth of today are less likely to die of ESLD because they don't drink as much alcohol. That's a net positive.
Instead, they'll die of diabetes and weight-related problems as they age.
I'm not saying one is better or worse than the other.
It's a matter of picking your poison (literally).
Just trying to keep things in perspective.

I don't think it is. There was a spike, but people want clarity. Not fog.I think it’s oversimplifying the situation to just assume everyone has replaced alcohol with cannabis. People have been using cannabis for a long time, regardless of legal status. I don’t know about y’all but growing up it was way easier to get pot than beer. Like not even close.
But to be fair maybe cannabis is taking over, it definitely has become more socially acceptable. Likely people just aren’t believing the propaganda anymore. How serious are we supposed to take an anti-cannabis billboard or commercial when it’s sandwiched between the Miller Lite and OxyContin advertisements?
Are you implying one has to put their smart phone down to go to the liquor store? While less alcohol consumption is a good thing, I do wonder if any other bad habits replaced it.
I loved the drive through cocktail placesThe Virginia ABC had home delivery ... at least it did during covid.
It's a poll, let us not forget the nations percentage of age groups is getting older. The percentage of the older age groups has grown rapidly since 2010 and I am not sure how that is represented in this poll.I read this new Gallop poll that shows the percentage of Americans who report drinking alcohol is at a record low as beliefs about the healthfulness of alcohol have changed. Interestingly, the biggest changes have occurred in younger people and the changes have been rapid the past few years.
Do you all think this is a trend that will continue or is this a statistical blip.

I was born in 1980,tomorrow to be exact. I love being the last part of Generation XIt's the generations after " Gen X " ( 1965-1980 ). I was hatched in 1967. Do the math. I fell right into the 1980's " Decade of Decadence". Drink till you drop, do as much coke as " Scarface" could get into the country, smoke 15 joints a day. It was all cheap. Fake ID's got you into any club or bar, then then " After hours places" till 10 am. The music, the excess, the body abuse, was a " normal" part of growing up. MTV & Arena Concerts played a big role in it too.. Then came the next generations....more concerned about their health, going to OMG, a GYM !!!. My nephew is 30 and gets Botox injections. I was like " WHAT !?!?! " At 30, I was chugging 30 packs of beer !!!! Weed plays no role in this. It's still the dirt bags smokin that stuff. Cigarette smokin is way down ( oh no, too many chemicals ), Drinkin is way down ( oh no, bad for you're liver and brain ) Botox is up, breast implants at 25 is up, lip injections are up. It's the " ME" generations nowadays. I don't know, I had a BLAST in the 80's, and don't regret it one bit....
