Hmmm. I liked Southland, not as anything serious, but as something strange and fun to watch.
I also think Sean Penn is a fine actor, as is Tom Cruise. I don't care for either of their "real" personalities or most of their views and opinions, and guess what? It doesn't matter. I'm a adult and can separate an actor's role from his life.
And as for moral lectures from Mr. Penn, keep them. Also keep any from anybody else from whatever morality they espouse, especially if it's mostly lip service and no action.
The worst movie I remember was Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia. I watched it one New Year's Eve with a friend, and thought I had either died and gone to H ell or was trapped in some kind of time warp...the dam flick seemed to never end.
