hi! i am pretty new to the board and to higher quality waxes. i recently bought some nanowax and just used it yesterday. however, i couldn't see any shine to my car. the color is white and i understand that most wax shine is more noticable on darker colors but this is probably the worst shine i've seen. it is my understand (and please correct me if i'm wrong cause i don't know too much about this stuff) that most waxes with wipe away or remove a precoat polish?? is that correct? will the nanowax remove a coat of polish applied before using the nanowax? either way, what is a good economical polish? thanks for any help

While I haven't used the Nanowax or Meguier's NXT, I believe these polymer "waxes" are similar to Zaino (which I currently use) and apply very differently than regular carnuba or similar waxes. They should go on VERY thin and sparingly, almost like you're not putting anything on at all. This makes a big difference in "shine" and overall results if you put too much on. Also, not sure about cure time for either of the first two, but Zaino is particular about temp and humidity for cure time (unless you use the ZFX accelerant). Try to buff too early and it just smears, leaving not much of a shine at all. Again I'm comparing this to my experience with Zaino and don't know for certain if these characteristics apply to the Nanowax or NXT, but seems reasonable given they are similar.
As for polish, I like S100 Paintwork Cleansing Lotion. If your finish is swirled or somewhat neglected, use a slightly more aggressive polish like 3M Perfect-It or Meguier's #9 Swirl Remover.

Your best bet will probably be Meg's Swirl mark remover (tan bottle) followed by Meg's #26 hitech liquid wax
I never used nanowax, but I heard it does kind of suck.

-nanowax does not have any strong cleaners in it like a cleaner wax, so the nanowax was applied to a rough surface (un prepared)to begin with...therefore you need to polish beforehand
- you applied it too thick (I would estimate less than 1 oz should have been used)
- you say "take off a previous coat of polish" Polishes are not applied in coats, or layered. A polish simply cleans/polishes the surface in preparation for a wax..so there really should be no "polish" left on the finish before waxing to begin with

A clay bar treatment followed by Meguiers #26 will look excellent and last a long time.
The trick to waxing is in the prep before you wax.
You must:
1. wash
2. clay
3. wash again
4. polish and repair
5. wax
If you don't prepare the paint for the wax, no amount of work will give you the results your looking for.

this stuff has to be applied really thin, then let it cure for at least .5 hour. i use about a dime to penny size shot of wax for each panel (roughly). be sure to work it into the sponge before applying.
that said, it's an ok wax, but i'm glad it was free. i use detailing spray to enhance the appearance.
