I thought I was pretty well-tooled and I have a solid selection of snap ring pliers, but this one on a GMT800 CAD gave me considerable trouble.

Wondering what you guys use here? Standard "duckbill" pliers don't really work. I think maybe I need them with the dimple in the jaws and I have these Wilde 409s on order but the location of the dimple seems like it may not be appropriate for this application?

I would have used a pick with a bend in it, looks like there is room to get a pick between the splines and the ring, then just walk it around.
Yeah....not really that easy. Or maybe I suck at life. The latter is a strong possibility

It doesn't seem to be under tension, those things can be a PITA, I use a pick while leveraging it from underneath. These work pretty good for VW inner cv axle clips that look similar to yours.

Thank you, I actually like how those close with a "V" so they open more parallel-ish.

I do also have the full "parallelogram" pliers but they didn't do squat here, partially because the jaws are smooth on mine
