No coolant is going to damage any water pump unless its left in there so long that additives start to precipitate out. All the hysteria over silicates is just so much nonsense its frustrating. Silicate compounds can actually be lubricants, its only when they're badly neglected that problems arise.

That may be true. This much is sure, all the Asian manufacturers recommend silicate free coolant, and their propietary coolants are all silicate free. So it seems that they think it has some importance, likely in maintaining the life of the wp. I don't pretend to know more than the car makers, and perhaps it's because many of the Asians coolants are intended for a longer interval. In any case, it would seem wise to keep the silicates low if using other than propietary in an Asian vehicle.
