I had to service the carb on my 2021 Craftsman (MTD) self-propelled mower, with the 150cc OHV Briggs motor on it, the carb inlet got completely blocked, first I thought it may have just been running too lean and dying when the auto choke went off, so I just removed the float bowl and took the jet/emulsion cartridge out and blew it out with carbspray it was covered in mildly varnished gas, but that wasn't the issue would still run then die after starting. So then I had to take the whole carb off which I hate doing because the plastic linkages like to break. I then determined the carb inlet was completely blocked, I had to run a wire through it, aerosol spray couldn't remove it, luckily I decided to test it after reassembly and sure enough the crappy plastic needle was not sealing, so I stole a metal one out of a carb I had from a junk mower, and it sealed fine, but I thought it was weird to see a plastic needle and brass seat in the carb, all of these I've taken apart before had a metal needle and seat, even the replacement part for my model, 093J02-0172-F1, is 594581 which appears to still be metal, this was manufactured in spring of 21 so I wonder if they couldn't procure enough metal needles and resorted to plastic for a while or if all the new ones now use plastic needles?
