Western PA temp at -2 . Subi been sitting all week. Check the battery with dmm...12.29.
Slump filled with 5w35, yep a mix. Turn the key and the Pistons move at snail speed and after 2 seconds it it fires and settles into a 1800 rpm idle.
Just have to love modern systems with fuel injection.

If I remember correctly, my 2016 Subaru Forester had something like a 400cca battery in it from the factory. The starter cranked that FB25 over disturbingly slow on very cold starts. It was the same situation with my 2014 Crosstrek and 2012 Legacy. IMO there are so many things with later model Subarus that just don't make sense for a "snow" vehicle.

360 CCA on my base model 6mt forrster. I think i could have spun it over quicker with a rope around the crank pulley on cold mornings.

My 2016 could have been in the high 300 range too. For sure I remember being shocked when I noticed how low the CCAs were. Mine was a base model, but with CVT.

iirc forester cvt battery was slightly bigger and the outback came with a 490CCA? even with the MT.
I had a 2011 forester prem and a 2015 both had the low CCA battery(panasonic?)
and both were replaced after about 1.5-2years because of the extremely slow winter cranking.

I didn't even bother taking the Subaru to work this week, left it in the garage. It was 5° at 11pm Friday night when I went to leave for work. It still has the factory battery when it left the dealer in 2018; there was no chance in heck it was gonna start without my jump pack. Don't know why Subaru sent them out with such low CCA batteries, especially with all the electronics they put on them now-adays. Probably will pick up an East Penn/Deka here before winters end.

I put in a 575CCA? advance auto parts silver series battery back when they had the 40% off coupons that worked on batteries.

Now sams club has pretty decent everyday price on a good battery.. or you can go walmart value series.
suggest skipping exide.

Those are some good suggestions. I like to go with the East Penn/Dekka as they're made right here in PA and my dealer for those is right up the road from me. Small mom and pop place with good prices and service.

Subaru made a lot of weird decisions. Small batteries on vehicles which will definitely end up in cold climates. Marketing a car to "outdoorsy" people but putting in a nearly white cloth interior. Foolish.

When we had Subarus at work i couldn’t believe how slowly they turned over compared to any other vehicle brand. I thought for sure they had dead batteries but i guess they just have slow starters

My 2005 legacy gt cranks extremely slow, especially when it's cold. When it's 10 degrees out it seems like it won't start at all.
