I had these put on last tues 3/11 Drove with them to Cincinnati and back about 600miles..
DT installed.. had an issue I threw a wheel weight.. on the trip (aprox 25miles after they were mounted)
Car was shaking so bad the seatbelt was giving me an upset stomach
Stopped at DT in Columbus they were severely understaffed took 2.75hours to get rebalanced..
but in their defense they were professional and capable.

The good
Smooth quiet ride when the road is good.
MPG was outstanding slightly better than OE yokohama avid gt (which was already good)
I hit 30+mpg with the turbo outback going mid 70's
Would have been even higher at 65mph
Tires had a huge rim protector hard to see in photos how big the tires stick out around wheel to protect it but its about thumb width.(massive)
If you look at the 9 o'clock position on the picture below its easier to see it there.

Traction was good.. improvement over OE tires esp in the dry.. wet was also superior but not as noticeable.(2" of rain on road trip)
Steering on the grooved roads (where grooves run in same direction as road) was ok.. didnt pull you side to side like some tires I've had.

The bad:
When road was bad ride was poor.
Little bumps felt like fred flintstone tires (concrete) WHAM! and impact noise was loud. No give to the bump no "rounding it"
Bigger bumps were also felt considerably more than OE tires even moderate expansion joint humps were jarring.
Handling was fairly light steering ok but just ok. Turn in was ok, but lane holding in a crosswind was not an improvement over the OE tires(poor)

Tires were loud on anything besides good pavement.
Ground surface (where they remove road paint in construction) was obnoxiously loud.

I'll try to explain a little more:
On construction zones where pavement was patched or slightly uneven (they expanded a shoulder to make a lane etc)

the car was very floaty and unsettled. When pavement wasnt perfect it was like the tires were very hard with no give..
when pavement had bigger imperfections they had too much bounce and float.

So to me they felt like all the bad parts of a UHP tire with none of the good.. This may be an artifact to this tire size.. on this car..

after 800 miles I decided to exercise my DT rights 😂

So What did I replace them with:
I was going to go Conti LX25.
but decided to go with Continental dws06 plus.

Now for bonus time I will compare my initial feeling on these DWS06+ vs the pirellis

The dws06 are firm.. but compared to the pirellis they round over the smaller bumps better.. still abit firmer than OE tires.
Dws06 on bigger bumps ABSORB some of the impact and dont get floaty/wobbly over road imperfections.
They arent overly harsh which I was afraid of.. They also seem well controlled by the suspension in a good way.
Steering is much improved esp. in crosswinds. vs OE but not edgy(which is good)
So far I'm very happy with the dws06+ I'll write their own review after 30days/1000miles or so.

I may be back to make some edits for clarity and spelling. 😂

Here is a yokohama AVID GT tire pic

Thanks, good review. You have my exact size so your review does concern me a bit as I have had different results with all of my Pirelli’s. I may try the Continental CrossContact LX-25.

I would like to reiterate
on good roads without a crosswind they were smooth like glass.. everything I wanted in a tire.
ok maybe a little more steering weight...

on bad roads with imperfections they drove me nuts. They felt jarring, out of balance, wobbly, and unsettled sometimes at the same time.
Another way to put it is they felt like they had 60psi of air in them when it was 35psi.
It was the oddest combination of bad characteristics that had me momentarily questioning my sanity because it was so good on good roads.. or lower speeds although impacts were not good even at lower speeds.

And I'm not exaggerating when I say the UHP dws06+ ride much better on the same roads.

If you want to try the pirellis you might consider an alternative size such as 235/60r18. Sams club is the cheapest right now if you need a pricematch website.

Not really a fair comparison in my opinion. The Pirelli Scorpion is a Street/ Sport truck all season, the DW06+ is an UHPAS. A better comparison would have been with the P Zero AS+3. It is a direct competitor to the DW06+.

That wasn't the comparison;)

The comparison which I felt was 100% valid was to the previous tire on this vehicle OE yokohama AVID GT. Which is a 3.7 rated POS on tirerack survey 😂

The "bonus footage" is the dws06. Mostly on how it rides better over imperfections than the pirellis.
First impressions only on the dws06+ they arent even broken in yet.

I also had the disclaimer that it was possibly an artifact with this tire size and my vehicles suspension.
the Pirelli is a very well liked tire.. If ohio roads werent terrible I would have likely kept the pirellis due to the great deal I got on them(156.88ea).. and how much I liked their positives.

I didnt want to put down too much about the dws06 with my limited experience.. but on good roads they arent as smooth as the pirellis. I'm sure the gas milage will drop off by 5%-10% and there will be other negatives.. Including treadlife which I expect to be about 2/3 the Pirelli's
which I will include in the DWS06 review in about a month.

Shoulda went with CC2s
I considered them as well as the new goodyear weatherready 2 that are burning up the tire reviews currently.
I bought the most comfortable of the UHP tires. I would not have bought the pilot sport as4 or several other uhp options.
I run michelin xice snow on separate wheels.

I had these installed on my wife's Equinox (via Sams Club) back in November of 2022 -- same size, even. They've got about 30k miles on them now and have been very good to us, even with all of the road construction/rough roads here. Perhaps quality has gone downhill since... but they are definitely way better than the OEM Michelins that came with the car and wore down to 3/32 after 25k miles.

I understand the interest in the Pirelli. We’ve had 2 sets of CC2s and they are a darling tire. Here’s where they are weak:
- lateral traction is notably limited
- they do have a bit of a mpg penalty
- while we didn’t have any issues at all with noise, some folks have had noise issues with them.

The Pirelli has some great reviews about low noise as well as being a better mpg tire. Ive considered their new v4 of this tire, and am glad to be getting good BITOG writeups on the 3s.

The DWS06 is a great tire. I personally prefer softer rubber for how it handles across the board. I’ve not driven the 06+, but am quite interested in keeping tabs on it.

@Rand - how do the DWSs steer on center, and just off of on-center, when you make fine adjustments left/right? I ask this because both sets of TerrainContacts I’ve had have been excellent tires, yet both developed this flaw around half way through their tread. I’ll be curious as to how these hold up. At first I thought mine might have been a casing flaw, but now I’ve wondered if it’s a factor of the shape of the center tread stripe.

With the disclaimer that I don't have many miles on the dws06+ yet:
On center steering is good.
That is what I was referencing when I said it was not edgy..
Doesn't feel like it needs constant small corrections but nice response to any steering you do. As Expected from a UHP it Feels precise.. well as precise as you get on an outback with a rubber damper on the steering shaft anyway.

The pirellis were at best similar to the stock tires in moderate winds
It would need corrections to stay in lane and the steering you had to oversteer slightly to get initial correction etc.

Those folks that I know who have the CC2 love’em but if a quiet tire is part of your criteria, choose something else.

yes, you guessed it.
DWS06+ are firm??? That is news for me as I run 3-4psi higher pressure to keep them from floating feeling.
I know but hey at least I got a UHP the minimum for safe driving eh ;) 😂

I didnt want a "hardcore" uhp tire. I was really looking for grand touring.
but so far these seem well matched to the car and what I wanted.
I'm running stock psi right now until I get 1000 miles or so on them. I might try -2psi to +4psi.
these are the 107 load rating so minus couple psi still has plenty of load capacity.
? Can you provide what you meant? a link to another tire I didnt buy with no commentary is hard to see your point or intention.

This thread was initially a review of the pirellis but it seems to have turned into what tire I should have bought thread :giggle:.

Have had CC2s on our CRV for almost 2,500 miles now and haven’t noticed any difference in noise nor mpg, which people also accuse the CC2s of. My dad has had CC2s on his Crosstour for almost 40k and hasn’t had a mpg hit either. It’s probably akin to people hearing differences in engine noise when switching oils. ;)

I found CC2 to in general be better than average in quietness, we had 2 sets. On a CRV they were quieter than BFG traction TA and on par with destination LE2, which was pretty good. On the Lexus GS, which had a weird sensitivity to tires, they were well-matched to the cars dampening and were quiet. Conversely, DWS06 made a dental drill whine which was awful. Very strange. I would not call the CC2 noisy unless compared to premium hush-rubber.

I will say that we did see a hit in mpg. I recently recommended them to a friend with a RAV4 hybrid and she’s taking a 3-4mpg hit coming off the oem Dunlop PT20. Granted, that will be a sensitive vehicle. Our CRV saw a roughly 2 mpg hit and the Lexus, which was thirsty to begin with, took a 1 mpg hit.

My wife has a RAV4H as well. The CC2 would have been my first choice, but I’ll probably compare with the Pirelli AS/4 and maybe the DWS or LX2x.
