I always thought the Catera's were FWD... And therefore no more interesting than a Camry. But your car looks sharp, you just need to find an autobahn for the complete german experience!

I always thought they were FWD, too. Weird.

Well in europe these cars were the poor man's BMW... the car shares gearboxes with the bimmer and a lot of the rear suspension is identical, so it handles much like a 5 series.

The previous generation had a either a 3.0L or 4.0L Inline Turbo engines... those are often swapped in the Current body.

The car is a friggin tank in the snow, but all that is thanks to a set of new Blizzak WS-50 Tires mounted on 17x8 wheels and are 245mm wide. Also thanks to the hefty weight and the wide foot print of the tires it actually handles like a 4WD vehicle on all season tires.

I have raced a couple suburbans and tahoes on trafic stops with 1-2" packed snow on the ground and outran them every single time.

The other day I drove in a fresh 5-6" snow and to my surpise the car took that with very minimal traction control interaction... the fun part is when you disengage the traction and you come around a turn at a 30° angle, at roughly 50mph and a rooster tail that seems to stretch for ever.

On the other hand with all season tires the car is simply scary to drive even in minimal amounts of snow, I got to experience that myself and dont recommend it.

A set of snow tires does a lot for this particular car.

Beautiful! I've driven both LHD versions (badged as Opel Omegas) and RHD versions (badged as Vauxhall Omegas). Although never driven the automatic version, I loved the manual version with the 2.5L V6. These were also used as police patrol units in the UK.
