For a while now some of us Canadians have been trying to obtain the zinc free FUCHS 0W20 (now with XTL 'technology' ;)). We seem to be a little bit closer to this goal with just a little side tracking as today I took delivery of some of their dexos 2 5W30 (XTL formula).

(see here for detailed specs of the FUCHS current lineup of oils: http://www.fuchs-europe.de/products.html)

I understand the diesel spec but lots of diesel spec'd oil is used more than successfully in place of PCMO. And you can see that this oil's specs includes API SM.

Come this November I will use it in place of Esso XD CJ-4 0W30 and do a used oil analysis coming out the other side of winter...March/April 2012.

I'm quite confused, however. The GM-LL-A-025 specification calls for a minimum TBN of 10.5, and GM-LL-B-025 calls for a minimum TBN of 9.5, yet the product meets low SAPS specs like ACEA C3, MB Sheet 229.51 and BMW LongLife '04. How is that possible?

Those GM specs are listed on the bottle as only "recommendations", and not approvals.

Yes, noticed that. But considering ACEA C3 calls for a TBN of >6, and with low SAPS oil being rather limited in their abilities to meet higher TBNs, I was wondering how it would fulfill that particular requirement.

Granted, it meets all the other requirements of the specification, and with Euro IV and newer gasoline standards in Europe, you probably won't need such a high TBN anymore anyway, unless you're going after super long service intervals.

I can't recall specific ones now, but I'm pretty sure I've seen quite a few low SAPS oils with TBN around 7 or so.

Actually it was not ($56.50 for the 6 L shown...including taxes) but I believe this more than fair price was 'compensation' due to the inordinate amount of time it took for delivery.

That works out to ~$9/qt, so it's not too bad.

Actually that is an outstanding price for a FUCHS oil.

(Toyota62 who has used FUCHS 0W20 (non XTL) pays $80 for a 4 L jug

Yes I do realize that oil prices in Europe are crazy high (as compared to NA). So my paying about $9.50 per litre for this FUCHS XTL is such a bonus.
