I have a computer in my shed for quick reference, Spotify, YouTube, browsing the web, etc. For years I have been using an SSD and memory upgraded mid-2010 iMac. And most recently with OpenCore Legacy patcher. In most recent times, it has gotten a little painful to use... and even more recently, it began failing to boot. Not a bad run out of an archaic tank.
My shed is uplinked via a Ubiquiti NanoStation M2 Loco 2.4GHz PtP access point, and serves a relic of a Cisco 8-port 10/100 3560 switch. The shed has an Aruba AP-515 access point. Also 4x security cameras are on this shed and run over this wireless uplink. I get a reliable 100Mbps link out here. Plenty sufficient.
Went hunting on eBay and found a cheap M1 MacBook Air. Only 128GB SSD, but thats fine. The condition was Grade C and it definitely took a hit at one point, but the price was worth it. $198. Its condition really isn't the worst for the price. It definitely has an aftermarket display and lid, but I couldn't care less. Paired with a cheap $20 Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock, a free 24" Acer 1080p monitor and a cheap Amazon monitor arm.
I re-used the old bluetooth based Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse, and have a Vizio soundbar paired via Bluetooth.
Excellent combo, the M1 is absolutely a monster and handles all I throw at it out here. Super pleased, especially for the price. Enjoy some pics.
