Well, Sir, I have had 2 sets of the original LTX M+S tires. Good tire. Never said the LTX M+S series( new or original )tires were bad. I just can't swallow 65,000 miles on just 3 /32 of tread wear. Sorry. Sounds like fantasy numbers. Like the guys claiming 30 MPG out of HEMI Ram's.

I introduced my buddy to the Michelin LTX M/S 2 and he never regretted it. Sure, they're pricey but, the reviews are incredible. So many happy owners of the LTX M/S 2.
Although the OP may be perfectly happy with the Firestone Destination LE2, General Grabber HTS, BFG Rugged Trail, the Michelin LTX M/S 2 are top notch. I say, "if you don't like these Michelin Tires, there is only one place to go...Down!"

More "fantasy numbers" for you nhhemi: "I am approaching 100k miles on these tires and they still have 6/32" left. Live in Michigan so they see a variety of road conditions. Best tire I have owned in 35 years." That vehicle was a MUCH heavier one than mine, an Excursion. LINK
I could go on & on from the Toyota forums, diesel pickup forums, RV forums, etc. of owners who have gone to 100,000 miles and still report useable tread depth left on their LTX M/S2's. We all must live in our own fantasy world to have such luck.

You said the tires had 12/32 new. You claim 3/32 of tread wear for 65,000 miles. That means somewhere around 195,000 miles out of your set of tires by the time they get to 3/32 and need to be replaced. Do you see where I have such a hard time with those numbers? I have NO problem with claims of 80-100K out of a set of M+S2's as they are rated to 70K and with proper care and easy driving it is possible. But alomst 200K is just unrealistic. 65K out of only 1/4 of the tread is another unrealistic claim. Sorry.

Ok here are the 2 trucks I owned that had the original LTX M+S on them. Both Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4WD SLT's w/ 245/70/17's. The tires were the factory tread. I had far less miles on them than you but they were worn much more....
Understand this. I am simply unable to believe 65K out of 3/32 of tread wear. Nothing more. I am not knocking the tire or saying they are bad. I would pay the extra for the tires myself if I could get that kind of mileage out of them. Just no way that happens.

Ok guys,
I took the plunge today and bought a set of Destination LE2s. First impressions after driving 5 miles is that they're quieter than my old Yokohama Geolander G051. Seems to handle a little better too.
I'll report back in a few months after I've put on a few thousand miles.
BTW, can I just rant that my last set was about $400 out the door including balance and alignment. Today's bill was just shy of $900

Actually I only changed 4 tires. The spare looked good enough to last a few years more. Since I plan to keep the car for many more years, I opted for the lifetime services.
Tires were $143 each
M+ lifetime B was $18 each
Lifetime alignment $160
No road hazard warranty
Shop fees $13
Tax $74
Final price $ 889
There is supposed to be a $50 mail in rebate. Not much but at least it will soften the blow to the wallet a teeny bit.
