If it’s easier to locate the batteries, sure. GM and Ford did announce general availability of their EV powertrains from production models(Bolt and Mach-E) but the batteries are also from that production model. Not so much of a problem in a classic barge from Detroit but in a truck it can be a problem.
There’s a YouTube of someone dropping in a Tesla drivetrain into a classic 911 - the battery pack had to be split with a lot of custom fabrication. GM showed off a 1970s Blazer using the Bolt’s powertrain but the battery pack takes up the entire cargo bay.
