Had to replace the drivers seat in the Trooper. The entire base basically fell apart .... Of course I had to pick on Casey as to why it broke.

Anyway been watching picapart for a trooper. Something odd showed up ... An Opel Monterey.

That's a trooper but with Opel badging.

Online price for a seat is $44 iirc.

Went and got the seat this morning. It's even the correct color!. Went to pay and they wanted $67. I asked why and they had added another $15 for a "warranty" I did not ask for .

I told the guy I did not want the warranty and he looked at me like I had just shot his dog. But he removed the extra price So I paid and went on my way.

The seat is very easy to remove and install so it's done already. Casey is no longer sitting on a pillow.

The trooper . Errrr... Monterey I got the seat from is a stick shift! I sure would like to swap all that into ours. Flywheel, clutch, pedal transmission, transfer case, driveshafts etc.

But alas no time or $$$ to do so. Probably be a whole day @ picapart to get all that stuff and they would charge for every nut and bolt too.

Perfect timing!

I was at the nearby U-Pull & Pay recently and got burned. Please don't make the mistake I made.
After a few hours digging for Gold for my treasure collection OLD minivans :-), I was pooped and was So ready to get in my car and leave that I made a critical lapse in judgment. I forgot to go over the receipt.

Sure enough...they double sold me two items that were a bit costly and I failed to review the receipt before I left.
But my fault....like a dolt I didn't take a minute to review the receipt. The guy seemed so nice. He even let me have the nuts and bolts at NC.

PLEASE don't walk away from checkout without verifying that they didn't double charge you for items.
I get a spidey sense feeling that I might not have been the only victim who got the shake down.

You notice these things when you are broke lol. I always figure the price in my head before paying. My wife does not understand how I do it at the grocery store. Always within a couple of dollars.

Salvage yards have became a bigger business and there are fewer independent yards around. It's made the prices go up.

I went to a yard early this year to help a friend and posted about it. The used mirror at a salvage yard was more expensive at the time than a new remote control mirror delivered by Amazon Prime. Tariffs has made the mirror go up on Amazon since January but.. .

Pic of the receipt if you click on the box on my old post.

With that talent you probably could put it to good use and not be broke. Have you ever looked into Accounting?
(not sure how old you are but I have CPA friends still in the business in their 70's)
Everyone has a talent...but many never realize or use it to prosper :-)

But then, maybe you were kidding. ;)

It's dad-accounting. I could walk through my garage and tell you what I paid for everything. Ten-year old oil stash? I remember. Laptop computer from Black Friday 2004? Ditto.

Terry Crews' character on "Everybody Hates Chris" has this ability.

I mean I can add $1.99, $2.49, $5,49 and add another $.80 for tax and get real close to the price lol.

First thing, I am surprised to see that there was an Opel Monterey in a CA salvage yard since they were only sold in Germany. I would have expected to see more examples of the Acura SLX versions of the rebadged Isuzu Troopers instead.

As for the "extended warranty" at the Pick a Part salvage yard, everyone has figured out a way to pry more hard-earned money from our wallets in this economy. The local Pick-n-Pull yard raised their admission fee by 50% (i.e., $2 to $3) and raised parts prices by ~30%. Another local self-service salvage yard adds in core charges & environmental fees...as well as requiring the extended warranty charge when they run a holiday sale. Thus, a 40% sale discount effectively becomes a 20% discount after tacking on the extended warranty.

You are exactly right.
If you have the acreage, you'd be better off today buying entire vehicles before the junk yard gets them especially if you need unobtanium parts for older vehicles, like my 90's and 00's Caravans.

Considering Ivy League Graduates these days can't add two and two, you would be a top notch CPA today.
Just wondering how you can make this claim - how many Ivy League graduates are in your family?

The ones I know can do calculus in their sleep, having mastered it in high school.

They’re very, very good at math.

$10.77 - done in my head as I read it. No calculator. I’m usually at the answer in seconds - before some kid even has their iPhone out of their pocket.

The evidence is everywhere...if you are non biased. Here's just one example. But unfortunately, Ivy League schools have become more politically polarized and focused rather than on high quality education.

As always, there are exceptions. Elon Musk being one of the brightest of all time to emerge.
No, THEY are not ALL good at math. Many are there due to DEI directives. Sorry but reality is reality.
when you place people to fulfill quotas, rather than based on merit you lower the bar for everyone.

You do realize people have different abilities naturally, right?

Some have unbelievable photographic memories (I know a girl like that, scary)
And others may be naturally superior in math. Others make great running backs and others still perfect as astronauts.
You might crush me in math, while I might crush you in other areas.

You don't think that an Opel dealer somewhere sold it here in the States,?

Well, we know where you stand on things like this.... It's ironic that you call others "politically polarized", isn't it ?

Sorry - your confirmation bias is showing.

You have sought out information to fit your bias, and have no objective, first-hand evidence. Even your linked opinion piece is titled as opinion - and talks about the decline of “opinion”, not the decline of the caliber of the students there, all based on their perception.

Talk about bias!

You failed to answer the question - how many do you know, personally? How many in your family?

Given your negative bias, it’s pretty clear what that answer is.

I suspect it was brought over from Germany, possibly as a "gray market" vehicle. This is what I found on the internet via the Wikipedia on the Isuzu Trooper:

"Around the same period, General Motors, Isuzu and Honda established a working relationship. Under this partnership, the Trooper was thus sold in Japan as the Honda Horizon (1994 to 1999), in Europe as the Opel Monterey, in the United Kingdom as the Vauxhall Monterey (1994–1998), in Australia as the Holden Jackaroo (1998–2002), and in the United States as the Acura SLX (1996 to 1999)."
