Well i was thinking doing my oil change at the end of this month and using Petro Canada 5w30 conventional to see how it would stand up to this winters cold.Far as i know i have to buy it at Petro Canada gas station and could not find it at walmart and so fourth.Any good luck with this oil?

Where are you located? If in Ontario you can get it from the Petro Canada distribution center.
Yes, definitely buy from a Petro Canada distributor; much cheaper but you usually have to buy a 12 litre case.
One of the best values is their 0w30 syn oil for $5.17/l which would be a much better all round choice especially in the winter.

Thanks for the reply guys.Im from windsor ontario and i know around January and Feburary gets very cold like into the teens and all but i do plug in my block heater at night so i can be toasty in the morning before going to work at 5:30am.I used to live in the boonies in white river ontario as the weather can be unforegiving day or night but now out here the weather temp. can be up and down but i think i should just go to the distributor if i can find it in town here and yes it could be a little cheaper this way.

Have you considered crossing the border to Detroil and doing some shopping there for a better selection and better prices?

Petro-Canada makes AMAZING oils. Their 'dino' oil ('Supreme') has lower ccs values than most synthetic oils - they make them for the cold!
As for how they stand up, I just sent off a sample today of this oil with 8881 miles on it; so in about 1.5-2 weeks we'll see how it did!

Hi addyguy let me know how your sample did im very much interested how it turned out.I have been on their performance data sheet and i like the fact what they put out.Last year i ran Esso Extra 5w30 conventional and its a great oil too but time for change for the other brands.Im planning to get Esso Ultron 5w40 for my wifes New Beetle and seemed great on their performance data sheet as well.I have castrol 5w40 in her car and the dealer was strict telling me castrol (ONLY).I called vw toll free number and they told me its not true on those specs. and i have a selected of 5 different brands to try out so yes i will give Esso a shot here.StevieC nice to know to go over the border to shop around but i rather stick with my dino and yup right now i have Pennzoil Conventional in the pan right now LOL.I just need to know how Petro would stand up all year round for my car.I think i found a distributor in my area by the way and i will check it out this week and see what they have StevieC.WHEW thats a bit of key boarding on here..i need a secretary LOL.

FWIW I will be using this PC 0W30 in my car's next change...likely November, and will run it till April.
(I know of no other 0W30 priced lower...is there?)

Esso Ultra? I believe Esso Ultra has been superseded by Mobil Super 1000.

point is at -42 C. These are great numbers for a dino grp 2+

2KBMW the distributor is in Essex ontario not far where i live about say 30 minutes from here.Trouble is they are not open on the weekends when i pulled up their site..they have a phone number to call so i will give them a shout tommorow and window shop for their prices on their oil..addyguy as far as i understand on the Esso sites they do carry it but im not too sure just yet its taken over by Mobil as fraso said and im interested to find out if its true or not.I know Mobil merged with Esso and it bothers me to see if Esso has their name on it and not Mobil Super 1000 and im not bashing Mobil cause they make great oils for many years and used them in the past but things do change in this day and age
I just stumbled on something here fraso..Mobil super 3000 5w40 data has great numbers on their sheet and this is what i found..cSt@40c 83,[email protected] viscosity index 174 sulfated ash 1.0, HTHS viscosity 3.7,pour point -42 flash point 450,density 0.860 so thats what i have found and beats Esso Ultron 5w40 by a few numbers..i never heard or even seen this oil before until i checked Mobils site
Where did you find Mobil Super 3000? I checked the Canadian Mobil products page and it's not listed there.

What i did was googled it. Mobil super 3000 and pulled up the site and did some good reading and thats about it.The Mobil super 3000 is synthetic and i know what you are talking about on Esso ultra and its dino..but i have used Esso Extra 5w30 and 10w30 and its dino too.The Ultra has more additive package than the Esso Extra and their numbers are a bit better for what i have read on.What i think is the Mobil 3000 is American product as far as i know and i could be wrong but like i said before i never seen or heard of it myself up untill i stumbled on it on google
Ok i just got a price for 5w30 supreme after i called the distributor last night and its 18 dollars for four 1 litre bottles so not bad of a price for them and i will change my oil at the end of the month..i wish there was a sale on them but thats their cost

Ya well gota do gata do with my petro canada i guess for what they ask but im still shopping around though.Its hard to find other that the gas stations and the distributor place but gee whizz walmart dont carry it and canadian tire eather out my way.I might as well call around and see where i can find some for a decent price if anyone sells it.
