I’m not so sure why people think hospitals and health networks should be managed by politicians. Almost laughable
Medicare or VA - government-funded.... /
At first glance your post seems to make sense. But it is incorrect in respect to the subject you are replying.

The VA and Medicare are POLAR OPPOSITES Completely different.

1. The VA is a government health care network. The heath care buildings, hospitals, management, equipment are all government owned and run. A Veteran must use these government facilities for health care. (more on that below) Im not sure how old you are but the VA has been a disgrace in the care of many veterans and only in the last decade or so are things being addressed. But no matter what. The VA is government health care and a complete failure compared to private health care. It actually highlights my original post on the subject. Which this is a perfect example! Since when does government do things better than private networks.
Do you know anyone who would love to go to a VA center that didn't have to?
IN the last decade veterans at times now have the right to go outside the VA GOVERNMENT system.

2. Medicare is taxpayer funded Government Health Insurance (NOT HEALTH CARE) for the private sector (non government) medical establishments in the USA. You can go anywhere you want as long as the doctor or medial establishment accepts medicare payments. They also have the option to charge 15% more for procedures if they choose to and as mentioned to not have to take Medicare patients at all if they do not want to.
Medicare in essence is the same, actually better than private and company provided health insurance. This system is as close to perfect as can be. Like Social Security, Medicare INSURANCE are the two government agencies that actually work well.

Bottom line, those with VA benefits have to be treated in a government run health care system
Those with Medicare go to the free market, non government health care system.

It is a perfect example on why government run health care is a frustrating horror story for many veterans over the decades being locked into government health care.

There are dwindling options for prescription savings lately. My dog requires heart meds and the price is unreal. The thing is, using AI and discovering how the product is made and the core cost of the various components, it seems I'm not just getting ripped off, I'm getting charged 100 times the actual cost.

I'd call that end stage capitalism, where competition is eliminated, then prices jacked up well beyond reason. Then subsequent competition is legally prevented through all manner of restrictive regulations.

If I wanted to open a plant making dog heart medication, a relatively simple product, I'd not be able to pull it off regardless of the effort.

Because we’re a free country and believe in free enterprise/markets. Being free creates the incentive to further medical advances of which the United States leads the world.

It certainly works better than the Soviet Union style of medical care did
We have the best healthcare system and equipment in the world
People who can afford to fly here from other countries for treatment

How is it “free market” when it’s lobbyists putting their finger on the price scale?

Speculation on your part
It’s a free market and I much prefer that than a market run by politicians. My God, the evidence is right there in front of you. The government healthcare network called the VA has been a disaster almost since it’s inception.

Maybe the perfect solution would be for Americans who are unhappy with the free market healthcare system be able to sign up with the government run veterans administration and get their healthcare there.

Perfect solution if you think about it. Unhappy with your private healthcare network? Be able to join the government run VA healthcare network.
that should make everyone happy 😊

being free is a wonderful thing
