I think like doitmyself. The reason I have animals is companionship and security. It gaurds the backyard and barn. Its not mistreated at all., It even gets Christmas presents. Dont be confused, your cat bonds to you because you feed it and care for it. You are its master, it sees you that way. My little boy has a cat(Iam not a cat person) it follows him around, wont come to anybody else in the house. My dog chooses me over everyone else,its just a matter of who spends time and feed them, they depend on you therefore you are the most and only important person in their life. Iam not condemning anyone for spending money on their pets, people spend alot of money on "stuff" that other people think is foolish. Its your money, I was just giving my opinion on pets. I do think they are easily replaced, I wont give them a human status, although, Ive meant some humans, I wouldnt give human status either.

I do not mistake my cat for being human. However, I do not consider him easily replaceable. I would not give another cat his name.
Consider this. I go to college, so I am away from home most of the year. I come home for a couple weeks during holidays and breaks and that is it. My cat however resides all year at my parents' house because my apartments do not allow pets and I do not want to be evicted. Whenever I come home from college, my cat is there to greet me. He immediately recognizes me and shows affection. This is a cat that will not go anywhere near strangers, but he knows who I am immediately after many months of me being away. Tonight, I came home from a friend's house at around 11:00. My cat was asleep, however, this creature who sleeps 20 hours a day got up for the sole purpose of greeting me. So call it what you will, a brain reflex, affection, or even love, but I simply can't consider something that behaves in that manner easily replaceable, disposable, whatever.
As for killing mice and bugs, those creatures are on a different level than say cats, dogs, dolphins, and other developed creatures. I know many people simply see it as man and creatures, but I see different levels. People like cats and dogs because they can show affection. A rodent shows no affection. It has no attachment to anything but itself. Mice are not protected under any kind of law. However, all primates, dolphins, cats, dogs, etc. are because their brains allow them to show some level of attachment, bonding, and awareness of people and their fellow species.

I wish that was true. Just becaause you can buy another dog doesn't mean it's "replaceable". My dog died last year, on christmas day. It was one of the worst days of my life. You'd have likely made out had you had this insurance before... at this point, what is the chance the surgery will have to be done again?
Out cat, when quite young, ate a nickel, and hadto have it surgically removed. a year later, she had to have a piece of plastic removed. Insurance would no be good for us even now, as two surgeries in four years wouldnt equal the premium.
It would have smoothed out the costs, and I suppose if checkups were included, would have saved us a tiny bit of $$$.
But had our cat only swallowed one thing, we wouldbe in the hole... if we want to bet that shell do it again, perhaps owning insurance is good.
Unlike people, where money-hungry doctors charge insane sums of money for nearly anything, most animal procedures are relatively inexpensive, though $2700 sounds like a lot. Our determination was that for us, we need insurance, for the cat, we can self-insure (and we woundlt put her under just because of a big $$$ procedure...).

Speaking of pets..this little guy is starting to grow on me. I was going to poison him but I just can't do it. 
. I do have a Have-A-Heart Trap. And I suppose I will need to catch him and let him go. But not right now. .

Why dont you invite him in and give him a recipe book, he may make you a delicious dinner.
So, I paid about $15 for a Guinea Pig then about $50 for a 'house' for it to live in. That's only the start. We paid about another $250 in vet bills! It's happy now though.

Our previous cat got sick and cost us a fair amount of money in vet bills. After she passed away we got insurance on our other cat.
She has had a couple of health issues that the insurance covered no problem. It's only $23 a month for the plan we have.
