Howdy fella's, me again.
You might remember about a month ago, I flushed the transmission in my 1993 Ford Taurus GL, AXOD metric transmission with 155,000 miles on it.
Problems before the flush were as follows:
"Jumping" into first gear or reverse at start up. (in other words, move shifter into "drive" or "reverse" and car would kinda "leap.")
Slipping in second gear.
Hesitation between 3rd and 4th gear, (Like it wasn't exactly sure which gear to go into.)
Here's what I did.
Drained fluid via hand pump through filler tube. Dropped pan, cleaned pan, installed new filter, filled with Advanced Auto Dex III/M. Drove car to circulate fluid, then pumped out three quarts with hand pump, replaced with new fluid, drove, repeated till I had circulated 15 quarts through system.
Results. No change other than nice clean fluid in my transmission.
Added 1 bottle of Lucas transmission fix. Drove. No change.
Bottle said, "might need two bottles." Added another bottle. No change.
Got to reading on Bitog. Added 1 bottle Lubegard Platinum. Some change. Jumping much less and a little less slipping and hesitation. Added 1 bottle Lubegard red. More change but not perfect. Jumping was less, (but still present), slipping was less, (but still present).
Advised I might have varnish in transmission valve body. Added one 16 oz bottle of "Seafoam Trans Tune." Results immediate. Within about two miles of pulling out of the parking lot of the parts store where I bought it. No more jumping, no more slipping. Transmission is working better than it has in years.
Question. I have a little over 6 oz of Valvoline Maxlife left over from my power steering pump flush. I'm thinking it will just sit there on the shelf and eventually get used for something weird or simply get thrown away. Why not add it to my unholy mixture?
Does anyone see any harm in doing this? Should I just leave well enough alone or would it help to throw this super duper transmission fluid in my super duper transmission mix?
