performance marine filter application

I was under the impression that the WIX filters that I was running all these years had synthetic media in them.
If they were the Wix XP model - maybe. Their website makes it sound like the media is still a full synthetic - depending how you interpret their media description. The word "with" could also mean some are synthetic fibers (meaning a synthetic blend) since they never say the media is "full synthetic". I'm not even sure if the media is backed any more on the Wix XP - their website info doesn't say anything about the media being backed. Many years ago they might have been advertised as "full synthetic" media and were nylon mesh backed. They aren't real efficient, but maybe you don't care a lot about efficiency.

Purolator Boss apparently has a synthetic media. I found a PBL25288 apparently has the same threads and gasket as the WIX filters I was using, but has a narrower cannister. Are these decent filters?

The rated ISO 4548-12 efficiency isn't the greatest on the Boss, but the rest of the filter is fine. If you don't care a lot about efficiency then it should work well in your application being nylon mesh reinforced full synthetic media.

I'm probably more worried about flow than I am efficiency, because I'm lucky if I put more than 50 hours a season on this engine before the oil gets changed again. Good oil flow to those bearings that are getting hammered under constant load is much more important. Thanks for the input!
