Penzoil 10w30 results

Results as follows:

sulphur 49

Oil was changed, lab did not run TBN or vis, and they reported the moly as reportable ????
This is the first sample ever taken on this truck, I run 5000 mile changes using Pennzoil 10w30 or 5w30 oil and purolater PureOne filters always. This truck is driven about 98% interstate miles. Opinions please.

Lab doesn't know that Pennzoil is using Moly as an additive.
Solids are elevated, wear is perfect. Oxidation is unusually low, question that. Get a viscosity reading.

Thanks for the speedy response. I will talk with the lab tech as this is the lab used for our equip. samples and I threw this sample in with the last batch sent in. They should have held enough back to retest if needed. I will probably wait and send another sample at the next change and have them run all tests. I will also pull an additional sample for test comparisons with another lab for confirmation of results. Any other thoughts out there on this UOA.

The viscosity at a minimum would be most helpful, TBN would be nice.

Report looks very nice otherwise. If the Vis was there, we could see what kind of shearing was happening, but all in all, with that kind of wear, 5,000 miles looks just fine!

Nice to see another high mileage F150 - my '97 is pushing 160,000 miles.

Yep, I agree with Terry. Oil looks super ... but the lab could use a little improvement.

Not just the lack of TBN or viscosity measurements ... but don't they know that in the last year or so nearly every major oil blender has been adding moly to their formulas?

I had also sent in a virgin Pennzoil 10w30 sample also and the lab stated "high moly is an oil additive", but they mistook the sample as a bulk oil sample from our tanks here at the mine. I will contact the tech tomorrow and try to get things straight. To their credit these two samples were in a batch of about 80 samples sent that day. Thanks for all the replies and I will try to post future results.

One of the best samples for conventional oil we have seen for this milage here. I would definitely stick with this oil in your particular vehicle. Looks like this vehicle is good for a few thousand more miles before it hits the scrapyard >) .

Terry is independant, although he does work WITH Blackstone now that they offer a Terry Dyson package where he does the final interpretation of their lab results.

Over on the Neon board, whenever the kids ask what oil to use, I always recommend Pennzoil 10w30 as one of the very best choices in conventional oil. That's a great looking report! If it was my truck, I'd stick with it.
