Wow! You've got A LOT of reading to do!

Pennzoil is excellent oil. Some are better and some are not as good, but it's practically splitting hairs between the competition.

Oh, it's terrible. Pennsylvania crude has lots of paraffin wax. You know what that means: SLUDGE.

pennzoil uses purebase base stock for its pennzoil brand motor oil. equal to iso syn base stock that chevron uses.sludge should only be an issue due to bad application, neglect, or abuse. sludge is not caused by paraffin

I see from your profile that you are an auto tech. Well, regarding Pennzoil and sludge, my father was an auto mechanic here at a high volume garage in Canada for over 30 years and he didn't see a single case of sludge in a motor caused by using Pennzoil.

lewk, I think you can lewd. I'm sure Drew is just pulling on skidoo's leg, or legs. Old timers love giving newbies a hard time when they don't use search feature on this site.

skidoo,

Do a Pennzoil search on this site and you'll be able to read enough positive comments to last a couple of generations.

Johnny is gonna love that. Pennzoil is one of the first with Conoco to begin mass marketing GRPII/+ based conventional lubes. Fine oil with low deposit formation in oil analysis and bench testing results.

Pennzoil Platinum MAY be a GC type sleeper that is being investigated for amazing wear reduction capability. Elves beware....

Hey! That's the same identical Pennzoil Lamp that Johnny sent me last Xmas!

His card indicated that it was a limited edition & had collector value!

Pennzoil is a high quality oil that does not nor ever has caused sludge. My family has used it for generations and never had a sludge issue. The only oil that I know of that had sludge related issues was the old Quaker State up to the 90's. I 've seen that first hand.

That lamp is proof there are people who care too much about engine oil. However, I like it.

But seriously, Pennzoil may be OK (especially the synthetics), but if you want the best, I think you have to get German Castrol (GC) Syntec 0w30 or Mobil1 0w-40. Can't beat those, based on UOAs, engineering behind them, basic specs, etc., which is all the evidence one can get.

Now Blue99 calm down, yours has a different lamp shade.

Wrong Patman: The 20W50 bottle takes a 100 watt bulb, you can only use a 75 watt bulb in the 5W30 bottle.

ColdCranker: Won't argue with you about the quality of the GC and Mobil 1, but don't think for a minute that there's not a lot of engineering behind Pennzoil branded products.

I would feel equally comfortable using Pennzoil, Castrol GTX, Chevron/Havoline or one of the Conoco/Phillips/Motorcraft blends. I make my decision based on price at the time I need oil. This business of trying to compare the top dino oils is probably splitting hairs.
