I just noticed the bottle of Pennzoil Ultra I picked up the other day is SM. I was going through Walmart again and happened to look at another bottle and it is SN instead. The date of manufacture varied by one month (September to October). Is there any difference between them? Should I exchange it?

somebody correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought pennzoil bottled sn ultra in the old containers for a couple months to use them up before the switch-over to the new sn containers. so in that case you probably have the sn ultra anyway.

No one really knows, there hasn't been a SN VOA or UOA yet, which is why I'm willing to pay for half of a VOA. Would there be any problem running it with SM, no go ahead and use it.

My way of thinking is; when Pennzoil developed the ULTRA, it was during the "SM" phase. Pennzoil, knowing that "SN" standard was coming soon, probably developed the ULTRA to meet both standards. So hopefully their engineers didn't have to tweek the oil to meet a new standard that was just around the corner. Less time spent in developement.

Pennzoil probably had a small startup contract with the company that was printing their artwork on the bottles and were ready for the change to labeling the bottles from "SM/GF-4 to SN/GF-5" JMO!
