Pennzoil PZ-37 CUT OPEN

C'mon guys. The owner reeeeeally prefers that we keep it respectful and professional. This isn't "lock-down worthy," but it's getting there. It's easy to misjudge a two-dimensional representation (photo) of a three-dimensional object. Different impressions from different observers. Of course, the OP was there and took the pics. Time to move on. . .

The link I provided (twice) above shows enough photos to clearly show how the bypass valve is designed ... it clearly does not sit inside a recessed lip and never has. A big part of BITOG (being where many technical people post) is curbing misinformation and misconceptions ... and that's what needs to be done once again. What good is this chat board if it's filled with bad information? It happens in many many forums on BITOG, and correcting misinformation will always be part of this chat board ... always has been.

All that had to be said is there is a raised neck that the plate rests on. End of story.

The other one seems to be a different version with the "[censored]" centering the spring. On this one the spring still looks off to one side to me. Of course if the disk fits on a neck parallax will show it over the lower edge. The bad here is making things about people, not the subject. I do have an old Bosch Purolator in the garage. It may have yet a different shape with the disk like a cap. Another note is I did not say the OP wasn't telling the truth, I thought he maybe wasn't understanding it. I am not a kid here, I am 72 years old like fearless leader and have several decades running a research lab at Stanford. I designed and ordered equipment etc and also was hands on with employees under me. I dealt with many brash personalities. I don't appreciate kids, some are not I know, talking to me the way I was talked to.

I know you posted a link. Well I didn't go to it. I still will look at another valve without the "[censored]". Which is censored, apparently because slang for mammary gland can't be said here.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. It's pretty clear how it's designed, and it does not sit inside a raised lip and therefore can not be held open if slightly off center. I even explained that (with the same link with photos I used here) back when you were someone else, and and kept bringing this same thing up many times.

Your former self divulged the same thing.

That's your own fault. Having correct knowledge is a powerful thing. Never seeing or learning the facts is not such a good thing. Go cut open that Purolator you have and please post up your photos.

OT That is an excellent thread by AE and practical test of the flat spring design, while looking very simple (and unique) does exactly what it's designed to do. Like river rat's testing another useful filter test done a member, one I particularly remember.

And yes, it really is a bit of an optical illusion strictly looking at it down the centertube. If not precisely centered, looks like it could be raised and thus open. In reality as this and AE's thread show, the disc is not recessed and thus remains closed until bypass event.
