Just got a jug of 5w30 Pennzoil Platinum and did an oil change. Checked level again after a quick run to the store and noticed the color was more amber than normal for only one drive. Opened the jug of PP to look at the leftover bit in there and noticed the new oil has a stronger smell that is more sharp, for lack of better description. I can feel it in my head like it’s a rough chemical. I’m used to just the normal oil smell. Anyone else notice this about PP or do I need to dump this out of my car fast?

I got at Walmart like normal. Was there again today so checked another bottle. Smelled the same as my one at home. Also smelled the Mobil 1 and it’s like regular oil to me. Maybe some additive in PP that I’m picking up on?

Are we really at the point where we are detecting the subtle hints of motor oil aroma? Not that I’m also not a motor oil freak, I just think it’s funny.

“VRP 2023? Oh yes that was a good year for 5W-20. Very oaky smell.”

Will say though Motul 7100 smells delicious whenever I pour it into one of my bikes.

The only time I have ever smelled the oil that I use was back in the days of GC 0w30, because it smelled like gummy bears 🤣

Did you shake it up to capture the sediment in the bottom? Supposedly that’s the Pennzoil additive package. I laugh every time I read something about the most wonderful motor oil ever….. “Shake it up!” Sarcasm

I just opened a jug of super tech 0w-20 and it kind of smells like transmission fluid in a way. Nice and fresh, I enjoyed the aroma while it lasts because within about a week of my short distance driving it will smell like gasoline!
