Yes, but it goes on to define "severe service" as "racing" and all the other conditions that normally constitute "severe service." Clearlly, under typical driving conditions, this oil is good for 5000 miles as Mobil guarantees.

Wow, their old dino oil was good for 7,500 miles, and now its only good for 5000? Hmmm, go figure.

No, it's "guaranteed" for 5K miles. They state that if your car is equiped with an OLM, then it's safe to go the durationg of that OCI, if said OCI goes beyond 5K miles...

Regardless of what Mobil's marketing department has come up with, the product itself seems to be a step up from the previous "Drive Clean" oil.

Mobil never advertised any suitable change periods for their recent oils before this new 5000, 7500, 15,000 campaign. They just said that the oil met API SL/SJ/etc and left the rest up to the buyer.

Like I've said, the number is all about the warranty as a marketing thing. Castrol's warranty on their motor oils is nothing more than the standard, "Our product meets listed API service categories and your new car warranty is maintained when using our product."

And where do you get that from? Cerainly not from Mobil. They never made any such claim.
