Pennzoil High Mileage

I was never a fan of Pennzoil because I was told years ago by a friend who is a mechanic that Pennzoil causes sludge and is a paraffin based oil. I have always used Valvoline and Mobil. But I have read a lot of good about Pennzoil on this site and heard those rumors about Pennzoil are not true. On this site I have read a lot about Pennzoil Conventional and their synthetic being really good what about their High Mileage oil? I just bought 5w30 Penn High Mileage and will try it out on my pick up. Can't believe I bought it but only did it because of this site and all the fans of Pennzoil.

Nothing wrong with PZ at all.Maybe back in the day there were problems,but they all had problems.QS's huge recall was a perfect example.Maybe it gets a bad rap because of all the detergents loosen old sludge buildup and may deposit it in other areas (?)...If an engine is clean with no problems,PZ will not cause any issues.Pennzoil conventional,Pennzoil Platinum or Pennzoil Ultra....

Almost all "conventional" oils are paraffin based. This includes Valvoline and Mobil.

Even if the engine has sludge I seriously doubt it would cause chunks of sludge to break off.

Pennzoil (Pennzoil conventional, Pennzoil Platinum, Pennzoil Ultra) is really one of the best engine oils offered by the majors. Pennz.HM is a great lube with a stout additive pack. Use with confidence. The bottom line is depending on your application, all the major brands and most auto store brands are great oils and will keep an engine going strong when changed per manufacturer/UOA intervals.

And to add to what dave wrote, grp III "synthetics" are highly parrafinic.

You wont be sorry, its a very good oil. In my opinion so is Valvoline conventional, Castrol GTX, Mobil conventional oil, Super tech. It`s all good.

Dave is on it. Good,chemicically stable motor oil for years has been a liquid form of paraffin n-alkanes) IIRC ATF and 2 stroke and gear oil can be the more volatile Napthenic cyclics) Cylics can have lower PP though.

Pseudo-synthetics (Visom and XHVI) oilbases can be "converted" from solid wax petro byproduct "waste".

Rowdy, I put over 150k on an old v8 Caddy using that oil in harsh conditions. The used oil analysis are on file here if you want to see some data. That oil is great in the right application. Use it and feel confident.
