penn oil selector is different

Any of those 3 oils are good choices.
I thinkk 10/40 is good to 5 degrees F and over 100 degrees F.
I doubt your range goes much below or above that in Texas.
5 w and 0w are good choices for really cold climates. and the 30w deosn't handle the heat quite as well as the 40w.

I am mainly concerned with heat. Even the coldest temps we see are in the 20's F. and that may be just earlyin the morning. Being that i have 345K miles, would a 40 be ok? Since many people say heat contributes to sludge formation, and I do believe this engine runs hotter than my V8 durango, I would like to do as much as possible to handle the heat.
What temp thermostat are you running on your Accord? On my Integra I have a 170F thermostat (OEM temp) and it runs pretty cool, even in 100 degree weather with stop & go traffic. I wouldn't be concerned about using a 30-grade even in Texas weather.

If you are concerned about sludge use a Kendal, Super tech, Napa Synthetic not too expensive. Or spring for the 5 q jug of m1 at walmart. they all come in 10/40 variety.

When using the Pennzoil oil selector you need to be sure to select Honda (US) and not just Honda.
I like this feature though, as it'll let you see what other countries use in your car. If i move to Australia i can use 20w50 all the way down to 5*F !

I just ried to use the selector, but my car isnt listed. I have a Neon SRT-4. Just for fun, I decided to try the Caliber SRT4. It selected Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 or Conventional 5w20. The last I heard, the OEM recommendation is 0w40. the motor is a 300hp Turbocharged 4 cylinder. I would think conventional 5w20 would be a last choice for this motor

Mobil`s USA website recommends 10W30 for my car (seems like the typical generic response) and Pennzoil Australian site recommends 15W40 and 20W50. Royal Purple`s tech line recommended 10W40,15W40,and 20W50.

Maybe in the summer months you could use 10W40(if you want to get rid of some in your stash) but, don't go out and buy it specificly to run in the summer. Todays oils are very robust with good addative packages. 5W30 or 10W30 year around is fine in a Honda.
I don't use 10W40 anymore although I may buy a stragler qt(s) on a discount shelf, CHEAP... And, the only time I even use 10W30(yes, 10W30) in a Honda or any of my newer vehicles, is because that's all thats remaining on the shelves when I finaly get to take advantage of the sale price and even then I'll only use it in the summer months. For the most part, 5W30 is what I use in my vehicles unless they call for something else.
