Anyone have experience buying dry Ice from this company from Publix. Looking to transport something for a 2-3 day road trip that I would like to keep frozen. I do understand care must be taken while handling it. How much would I need for a 50qt cooler. would it last 3 days

It will last most likely one day. Maybe a little longer in a really good cooler. You would want to buy ice along the way

It's dry ice so it's all the same, it'll be about -109F. The internet hive mind says roughly 10lbs a day, you'll want to probably start with 40lbs since warmer temps will make it sublimate faster and you'll have to pull your cooler down to temp.

I've handled it bare handed, just gotta be quick. Regular winter gloves will be fine. 10 lbs will be more than fine for your road trip. It's going to super-cool your mystery item somewhere below the zero-ish temp your home freezer gets it, so even if all the ice melts your item will still be darn cold. Maybe throw a dinky thermometer in the cooler so you can check on it along the way.

Also worth mentioning that if you have a gasketed sealed cooler like Yeti the drain needs to be left open for venting gases evolved.

Don't over think this man! If it were me, I would get 5lbs for the cooler. This will keep your items frozen for most if not all of your trip. You can supplement with regular ice if needed.

Dry ice is CO2, the stuff we exhale. If you need, put your window down for a little bit. We did our trip in a T&C minivan with no issues. My cooler did not explode, the food tasted fine. I would recommend gloves to handle.
