So peak used to be a no name.....but now its backed by micheal waltrip racing and seems to be gaining popularity.

How good is peak oil?

I have 14 jugs of 5w30 waiting in the wings. I'm hoping that 222 ppm of Boron will work out great. Thank you 99Saturn!

I had FAR Peak oil with house brand filter from Pep Boys few years ago, it was very good oil. The engine seems quieter with it compared with other dino of the same 5W30 grade.

I'm with ya on that! We've talked about this in the past and I agree, it made the engine surprisingly quiet/smooth and I couldn't believe that I got 30 qts/6 filter from PB's FAR.

Right now, I am on a Quaker State Conventional kick and it seems to be similar to the PEAK in terms of it's quiet/smooth operation at an even better price than the PEAK

I'll use the synthetic in either of our cars. Being dexos1 certified means the 5w30 is keeping some pretty good company.

Peak is my second favorite conventional. I prefer Mobil Super, but have always liked Peak's performance. I ran 5w30 in my old Altima, 10w30in my XJ, and I have 10w40(6 jugs) for my XJ. Peak is as good, if not better than many oils.

When you Peak,you win....
Seriously, its made by Warren Products, and thats who used to make Walmart SuperTech.I believe they make Accel too.I wouldnt consider it Pennzoil Conventional or Mobil Super special.

Danica helped Peak along, but their latest ad is trying to appeal to the common man. Every car Foose Overhauls gets screen time showing someone from the A Team pouring Peak All Makes in the radiator. Seems like it has shown up everywhere, from Big Lots to all the chains...

Both are very high in boron. I am convinced oils high in boron will cause many engines to run very, very quietly.

Peak conventional had very good VOAs posted somewhere. Peak synthetic VOA was posted on this web site and didn't look great, I forgot what it was. Arguably, most of minor, store, and other oddball brand synthetics are not as good as the major brands or the boutique oils.

According to the PQIA testing, the PEAK and Quaker State Conventional both have 222 ppm & 224 ppm of Boron respectivly so, it seems about right.

It's cheap which automatically makes it a BITOG favorite. Not saying it isn't good but to so many here price is all that matters.
