Good day all,

Just a quick question. I replaced the oil in my car to Peak 5W-30. Currently my car is smoking from the front.

The smoke is white. If I am not mistaken, it smells like oil. It will sometimes smoke right after I turn off the car. While driving, I can smell this burning smell but it's not very strong, but annoying.

If you know the 5S-FE 4 cylinder engine, the smoke is coming from in front of the engine, between the engine and transmission. I can post a picture showing from where exactly the smoke is coming from.

I had to replace my oil pan last week and I am wondering if the oil could possibly be causing all these symptoms before I return back to my mechanic?

Currently, the engine has 195,500 miles and this is the 1st time I am using Peak brand engine oil.

Did anyone had a similar experience with Peak or a different brand?

Thanks in advance

I would not think it is the oil. Sounds like somehow oil is leaking out on to the exhaust somewhere causing it to smoke. Post a picture if you can.

never heard any bad about peak brand motor oil.look like you got engine problems.the way i see it.

did you maybe spill a little while pouring it in? even if it seems like you clean it all up it seems like you'll always have some "hiding out" somewhere.

It's not the brand of oil your using, it's leaking on the exhaust somewhere. (maybe valve cover?)

While white smoke is an indication of a bad head gasket, it's usually seen coming out the exhaust white. Oil burning on the exhaust from a leak also looks white, but like you said it smells like oil..

I had similar problems when I put a new exhaust manifold on that came with coating oil that needs to be burnt off. When I used a lot of PB Blaster to break off rusted bolt, they burnt off with white smoke as well. Engine oil doesn't give off the same type of smoke.

Thanks for the replies.

It's not coolant for sure since the smoke is coming directly from underneath the engine. I put a piece of cardboard underneath and it was engine oil that is leaking. Weird thing is it does not leak every single time when I shut off the engine.

The leaked oil on the cardboard formed a straight line just underneath the oil pan from where the smoke is coming from.

Mechanic most likely did not install oil pan correctly or did not use enough sealant. I'll have to take it back to him.
