Peak Long Life for a Toyota

I know this is a dexclone formula. Has anyone used a dexclone, or dexcool itself, in a Toyota? I know the Japanese like the phosphates; if I used a phosphate free formula in a cooling system that had a high phosphate antifreeze, will it harm anything?

Also, has anyone topped off a cooling system with the Peak formula? It indicates having an amber color that won't change the original color. Did it, or no?
 
I made has been useing Dexcool in his 2.7L I4 1995.5 Tacoma. It was 3-5 years old when he went to Dexcool. When he moved up to Michigan it was too big of a hassel getting to the Toyota Dealership with his work hours. The 2.7L I4 does not pass coolant through anything that is plastic so we had no real issues with going to DexCool. i still would not use Dexcool on anything that pass's coolant through plastic!! If your engine pass's coolant through plastic anyplace I would use G-05 instead and youcan get that at AutoZone. As a matter of fact he needs to change it out again. Just make sure you flush every bit of old coolant out if it is different from what you are going to use. After you flush with water drain all of the tap water out. When you refill use distilled water to to reduce deposits and to keep the corrsion inhibitors happy. G-05 on the other hand can handle hard water but will ofcourse perform better as well with distilled.
 
Hmmmmmmmmm, my car does have plastic ends on the radiator. What makes Dex so bad for plastic? Both our GMs have plastic end tanked rads as well.

My father’s daily driver is a 1992 Toyota Previa with 65,000 miles. It still has the original radiator cap, thermostat, radiator, and radiator hoses. The recommended coolant for this van is ethylene glycol, 50/50, carrying a replacement interval of 2-3-yr/30k miles.

Evidently, this van is quite a low-mileage vehicle for its age, and up until several years ago, was a garage queen used on a few long trips every year. As a result, the first coolant change for this vehicle was done after six years and 12,000 miles

, and the second coolant change was done after twelve years and 45,000 miles.

Last month, two years and 20,000 miles since the last coolant change, I discovered the old coolant to be of a dark brown color with lots of sediment floating around. The school shop currently has a RobinAir 75700 Coolant Exchanger on loan, so I hooked up the machine to the upper radiator hose and flushed more than seven gallons of tap water through the 12 qt system to remove all of the old coolant.

I then added one full qt container of Prestone Super Radiator Cleaner and topped up the system, and allowed my father to drive the van for about one week and six to eight hours of total operating time. At the end of this cleaning cycle, the cleaning mixture was of a light to medium brown.

Back into the shop went the van, and the coolant exchanger was utilized once again to flush five gallons of water through. Then idled the van for 15 minutes, and began to exchange another five gallons through, but noticed the water was clear and continued to stay clear after running through 1.5 gallons…so I merely stopped, unhooked the machine, then proceeded to drain the radiator (8 qt capacity).

In went 6.5 quarts of Prestone All Makes All Models coolant and more tap water. After a few days, I topped up with water to the maximum mark. The coolant still has some sediment floating around in it, but only a touch. Color is still a very, very pale green.

Sorry, can’t give you any long-term results, but I’ll keep you posted if any new developments are to occur. I just considered myself lucky that the week long acid flush didn’t cause any leaks in this neglected system. No leaks as of right now either...
 
I was not counting the plastic tank ends but they( the seals int he ends) do often fail on GM vechiles. My Dads have not failed yet though and his radiator is a Harrison wich is the same supplier GM use's. What I meant was plastic intake manifold etc....
 
From what I have heard, they can be fixed by recrimping the metal where it meets the plastic tank ends. I don't think this has anything to do with Dex-Cool since it happens on non-GM vehicles too.
 
I've been using Prestone Dexclone in my 1994 Toyota P/U for three years now (about 50,000 miles). I have had no problems at all.
 
I've been using PEAK E-L in my wifes 01' Honda Accord for over 3 years and 40K with no problems. Are you sure it is a Dexclone?

Absolutely. Peak Long Life (not Peak Global) is organic acid technology with no phosphates or silicates.
 
Actually its the older PEAK Global that I've been using. It states that it contains NO Phosphates or Silicates. It seems to work fine in the Honda and the plastic overflow tank is still OK (not leaking). Is the Global a Dexcool clone?
 
However, it (Peak Global) IS a silicate-free OAT coolant. I don't see any indication on their site that Peak Long Life does contain 2-EHA, only that Peak Global does not.

In addition to that, their coolant reference chart recommends Peak Global wherever they recommend Peak Long Life.

For all I can determine, these could be the same product.
 
Is the 2-EHA the culprit that 'supposedly' eats plastics(thus causing leaks in GM motors that used plastic gaskets)?
The 'engineer' that designed those plastic gaskets should be ashamed of himself. Maybe he had no choice due to 'beancounters'.
 
Supposedly is the word I'd use, as I have not seen any evidence that 2-EHA causes that problem.

But if anyone has any plastic jugs of DexCool that have sprung a leak, that would be interesting...

(Actually there are many different kinds of plastics, so any discussion of what 2-EHA does to "plastic" is rather useless without knowing what kind of plastic we're talking about).
