Two of my local auto parts stores are currently advertising buy 1 get 1 free after rebate... Peak Long Life Coolant that, mixes with any color any type anti-freeze(the regular stuff not the 50/50). My question is: Can I use this product in an 04 Nissan Altima ???

Sure you can use it.

However, while the factory coolant is an OAT, it's a different formula than the PEAK.

If you're adding it to factory coolant, it's hard to predict what the life of the mix would be.

And if you use it as a complete replacement after flushing the system out, you may find that the PEAK will react differently to elastomers and gaskets in the cooling system.

For example, the DexCool OAT used in some Japanese vehicles can lead to gasket failures over a long period of time.

Thanks Rolf for your input! Now, is there any over-the-counter coolants that I can purchace that are more desireable for my cooling system? I just hate paying $20+ per gal for the dealer coolant if I can buy another brand of coolant that is equal/better for less money. This question is to Rolf or anyone else who has any information.

Thanks,
CB

Char - There are some threads concerning virgin coolant analysis of different brands; they may give you some insight. My recommendation is to just buy the spec coolant from the dealer and be done with it. The cost is negligible over the span of the coolant changes.

I bought the peak, but it's for my ranger. I could careless what I dump in that thing. It's got a mix of Prestone, Meijer 50/50 mix, and now a little peak. But it's my ranger with over 230K miles on it, so I don't really car as I stated :0

Well, if an engine is put together properly with good matreials and gaskets then there shouldn't be an issue. Many GM V6's experienced intake manifold gasket, head gasket and water pump issues and GM thought that DEX-COOL was going to eliminate these problems when if fact it was poor gasket material and the fact that cast iron blocks and aluminum heads usuall don't like each other. I've owned vehicles that were cast iron blocks and aluminum heads and put on over 300,000 miles and never had any issues because of which coolant that I used. Im going to trust that Nissan has put together a decent engine that the system can except any coolant that is EG as stated in the owners manual.

I have no doubt it was the coolant and on the maxima forums there are anyone who has a blown radiator. Only a handful of the 4th gen folks seeing radiator leaks, the OEM was good, I screwed up big time.
