I'm seriously considering replacing the dex-cool in my cav (I think about 40,000 miles, 4 years on it) with either Peak Global Lifetime, or a G-05 coolant. My local NAPA carries both, so it's just a matter of picking which one. I'm leaning towards the PEAK because I've heard alot of good stuff about it.

Why are you wanting to replace the Dexcool with something else? I never seen Dexcool cause problems in Cavaliers. It wouldn't make sense to go with PGL IMO. You would be trading an approved OEM (GM, basically VW, HD in nitrited form) OAT type coolant for another OAT coolant that is not really OEM approved by anyone. That's not to say anything is wrong with PGL but all that is really known about it is it contains benzoate, a ho hum inhibitor, and some other unknown inhibitor that could very well be sebacate which is part of Havoline Dexcool.

I guess if you want to get away from OAT coolant despite no real known problems with it in Cavaliers G-05 or Green would make sense. I guess if you just want to try something different PGL would sort of be a closer match to Dexcool.

I'm using PGL in the following;

Honda 3.5l v6
Toyota 1.8l I4
GM 4.3; V6, 4.8l V8
Subaru 2.5 H4
and soon;
Ford 5.4l V8
PT Cruiser 2.4l I4

So far no problems and I doubt there will be. I did do a very good flush to the point that only water is in the block then 50-60% of PGL. I'll do a drain and fill every 3-4 year or 100k miles with a 50/50 mix.

I did put in the Subaru conditioner in the Subaru since it is still in warranty till 60k miles.

I'm just sick of having to worry about having a bunch of flavors of coolant for different vehicles and refuse to pay stupid prices for pre-mix anything.

Take care, bill

PGL is probably a good coolant. But really Dexcool is not as bad as many make it out to be. There's just not much known about PGL to really say it is a better universal alternative than dexclone is. It has the potential to be. What kind of made me suspicious of it was that I always suspected it to be the same as Peak's HD OAT coolant, which is an OE FF, except non-nitrited, but Peak said the OATs were not the same. Anyway I'm sure if you ever notice any problems with it in any of those vehicles you'll let us know.

I echo Mechanicx, I never switched from Dexcool in my GM cars that had them (all 4 cyls) and never had an issue.
