PCV valve, oil consumption

I've done a search, but I can't seem to find anything concrete. Does having a stuck PCV valve increase oil consumption? Why?

P.S. Yes or no is good enough for me, but why would be nice and educational.

I don't know. There is oily sooty crap coming out of where the hose and the valve cover meet, and my car's oil consumption has gone up.

I cant see much difference in oil consumption between an open valve and a closed one. It may suck some oil vapors but it would have to suck a whole lot of them to be the reason for oil usage.

I'd look elswhere.

A PCV valve that is stuck close can definitely increase oil consumption. I believe that this results in added pressure in the crankcase, resulting in added pressure to seals and rings. Excess oil pressure on the rings during the exhaust stroke can cause more oil to get into the cylinder past the rings, which gets burnt during combustion.

Stuck and inefficient PCV valves have been associated with sludge buildup in the sludge-prone Toyota engines of a few years ago. I don't know the details behind this, but there's plenty of discussion about this on the forums talking about the Toyota sludge problem.
