pcv valve and idle shake

I may be wrong, it may be impossible, but changing the PCV valve on my 98 has noticably reduced the slight idle shake that my 98 ZR2 has.

Can that be? If so, why?

A traditional PVC valve is a regulated (and filtered) manifold leak. I can easily see that if it was not operating normally that it could screw up the idle.

That is a sure sign your old one was bad. A bad PCV valve many times creates a lean condition hence the rough idle. They are one of the most sensitive and neglected parts parts on a motor.

FWIW, OEM PCV valves seem to last much longer than many aftermarket ones. And some aftermarket ones don't even work right from the start From my experience.

Going back to an OEM PCV valve had a significant impact on the idle of my wife's SUV. It also cured an oil consumption issue. I agree that the PCV valve is often overlooked.

I had bad idle shakes on my 90 Cutlass. Turns out all I had to do was replace wires and plugs.

my wires and plugs are new. Most of the issue is that its a 90 degree v6, not the best smooth design.

But the PCV made the cyclic shake go away... Im happy.
