I had to go and pick up one of our loaner quads today, tore out a steering ball joint, and the farmer wasn't too happy. We've had his bike for a week and it's not fixed yet - duh,it's not fixed because it took 3 days to reply to my call for a go ahead on the work to be done.
So as I'm going up the access road to the dairy unit I see our bike in a paddock at the bottom of a hill...no way I can get the truck to it and use the tail lift. The farmer says I can get to it through the milking shed, just climb the fence and go on down to the bike....the fence is off.
So I walk through ankle deep cowpoo in my work boots, get to the fence and start to climb over - POW!!! Oh,thanks mate, fell for that one didn't I?
I managed to pop the tie rod end back into place, and reversed the bike out and back up to the truck, and loaded it up the ramps without losing the ball joint again.Back at work I just washed the one wheel down and fitted a new end amid the poo.
I get home today smelling like a cowshed. It's good to get out and about after being trapped in my own business for over 10 years - but the real world gets a little too real sometimes.
