Patriotic considerations for a specific automaker

I guess I’m an outlier but I literally could not care less whether what I buy was made in America or not. I’m after the best quality product for the best price. Sometimes it’s American, sometimes it’s Chinese.

I like the world working together and not being on an island.

Does Hyundai has patriotic considerations when it comes to the way they treat their customers? Bcs. there are few companies that have shadier warranty conditions.

Well Honda and Toyota haven't taken care of the customer on the front end in recent years. MSRP + ridiculous supplemental stickers.

I like the idea of supporting local workers, so we've had six built in Ohio Accords over the years, one of which we have now.
The Forester is of Japanese manufacture, but if we were to opt for an Outback, it would have been built right next door in Indiana.
Where do the profits go?
Well, the profits belong to the common shareholders and they are a transnational group for any publicly held company.

Having a vehicle assembled in USA or Canada, was a selling point to me, with free trade between Canada and US. It was about the same to me, given our near equal standards of living, labor and environmental protection laws, and probably some parts were made in Canada.
Mexico I'm not so keen on, as they aren't quite following the same rules.
Hopefully I can continue to happily buy made in the USA cars into the future, with a resumption of the trade agreements negotiated in good faith, and freely agreed to by each country. But I am willing to buy something made in Canada if I need to, like a CRV or RAV4, if things actually go sideways.
We like our Indiana produced Outback and it seems pretty well made with no assembly errors or slopiness that I've ever found, and hopefully the wife can buy another if she likes, in the future.

I buy only union made from the USA or Canada. Canada is/was a good trading partner as they buy a lot of USA products. Sadly, times are changing but I'm all for Canadian production being treated the same as US when considering a domestic product. If it weren't for oil products, the USA would have a trade surplus with our great northern neighbors for finished products and parts.

And your point is? You are talking patriotic. When Hyundai fires people, do they still give them salaries bcs. patriotism? I lived in Montgomery 8yrs. I have seen mom and pop shops contributing to community more than Hyundai corporation.

I’ve said this before but it matters less to me where the people building a vehicle are located than where their parent company is located. I’ll take a Japanese brand made anywhere over an American one just because of the corporate philosophy.

The reliability of the Kentucky Camry equaling that of the Japanese ones was a real eye-opener because I certainly expected there to be a marked difference. The fact they are just as good speaks to the quality of their management because I know several of the people who work there and they are just regular Joes with no particularly special skills or training beyond what the company gave them.

There is no one here making auto grade IC’s at minimum.

Polar is a US foundry. They make die that go into automotive IC's. [It's the only one I know of off-hand. I suspect there is more.]

Don't know about packaged parts though. The USA may have few places that do packaging on a large scale.

And no idea where the wafers & probers are sourced from; nor FT handlers--all the ones I know of are from Japan or Germany. Lots of stateside PCB fabricators. Probe heads are a mixed bag, I think the balance is overseas, and the same is probably true on final test contactors. Then you have EDA tools, which I think we have decent selection of, Cadence for IC and PCB. Then there are various subcontractors who do support roles, designing fixtures or doing PCB design, system integration, whatever. And finally the companies that design automotive IC's do have decent presence in the US.

Yes, some have commented the Chinese Buicks are built better. Ever heard of union employees being mad at GM / Ford / Chrylser and sabotaging driveshafts with coke bottles inside etc?

That kind of petty behavior keeps me away from buying union made vehicles. Unions are not about making a good product, just about the employee, and I could care less about the employees life decisions. I'll buy a Chinese Buick or at-will Honda lol.

The issue is the consequences of a country importing more than the country exports.

Over time, a country that imports more than it exports will collapse financially. There is a reason China owns so many American food processor, like the U.S largest pork producer, Smithfield Farms, is a Chinese owned company. Where did the Chinese get the money to buy the USA largest pork producer, by China exporting more than they import.

Lots of discussions about China buying American Farmland and the practice should be banned. No banning required, Americans need to stop buying Chinese products, which will stop the eventual transferring American Farmland for Chinese products.
