Patriotic considerations for a specific automaker

I am a truck fan and love all the American companies let's not forget these vehicles made this country what it is and were once made right here ......and could be made right here again

When I order a new super duty I expect it to come built in Kentucky no exceptions it would be even better if 95% of the materials were produced by American companies

The same scenario plays out when I order a Chevy or GMC but now it's a decision to make and it could go " south " from there
There are people in Ft Wayne and Pontiac that could have kept building at the trucks but alas

Build American trucks in America
Build Canadian trucks in Canada
If there is a demand export them

I have owned new Made in USA vehicles since 1995 including Honda, Subaru and Acura.

I bought my first “foreign” made in Mexico 2018 VW Tiguan and the first 150k no dealer visits vs US built…..even 150k-189k one unexpected repair which my others could not match.

Onshoring efforts like moving a whole automobile factory would be planned 5+ years in advance. You don't just spin up a factory overnight due to threats of tariffs. All I have to say on the matter.

However, I am very glad to see manufacturing coming back! Due to economic uncertainty, I'm not making any vehicle purchases right now but Frontiers look pretty nice and they are made here in the USA.

Does Hyundai has patriotic considerations when it comes to the way they treat their customers? Bcs. there are few companies that have shadier warranty conditions.

So you're going to be patriotic towards foreign companies selling products in the US but not American companies selling products abroad?
Kind of like the company who builds RAM pickups? Are they not "foreign owned"?

Hmm, what about my Prologue? It's made in Mexico by GM, an American company, yet each month I pay Honda leasing for it.

It gets real confusing, real quick, what's American and what isn't.

That said, if you want to buy American for the sake of buying American, I don't think you can beat Tesla. I just wish they made something I liked the shape and style of and I'd definitely consider one in 2.5 years when my lease is up.

I was expecting the Prologue to be built in Japan.

I didn't create the thread and I think it's a silly topic. We live in a global economy and most of us are typing our responses on devices made in China.

Did buying my 2023 Acura Integra that was built in Ohio make me feel patriotic? No, it made me feel like a sucker because it was a piece of junk that was hands down the worst car purchase I've ever made.

Another thing to consider is where does the money go? Sure, the car might be assembled here, but is it engineered here and do the profits stay here?
Where I live in SE MI, GM and Ford pump a lot of money into the local economy. The cars we own now were made within a half hour of our house. I have friends and neighbors who are engineers and hourly employees of Ford and GM. Lastly I'm in a union so I try buy products that were made by fellow union members. That being said, if I lived in grew up in SoCal I'd probably drive a Honda or a 10 year old Lexus as that is culturally more acceptable than such a vehicle is out here.
Long way of saying, everyone's experience and rationale for buying a car is different.

Ever heard of Tesla? A key reason I bought our 1st Model 3 was it was made right up the road at Fremont. The Fremont plant is the #1 producer of cars in America. 25K workers and far more in support.

I've been to ex-NUMMI and now Tesla for 3 factory tours.
I have owned numerous cars from the Fremont plant.
I also met with the Tesla IT CIO, Jay Vijayan, and his team for a custom software application. They offered me a job, but no thanks! Elon is a slave driver.
  1. 1965 Olds 4-4-2, I have the build sheet
  2. 1993 Toyota 4wd PU Deluxe, odo died at 450K
  3. 2018 Tesla Model 3 Mid Range
  4. 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance

Yeah, I've heard of them. I'm not a huge fan personally but in your situation purchasing from them makes sense, as I alluded to in the last sentence of my previous post.
Teslas are the most made in America cars and Tesla is an American company. Now, people may not want them, but that's not the topic of this thread.
