Patriotic considerations for a specific automaker

To be honest, if the company provides employment in your country, that is the biggest issue. It you want to buy shares in Honda, that is not difficult. I’ve said this before: Most foreign named vehicles sold in the US are manufactured in the US.
I don't want to buy automotive stock but would like to support companies investing in America. Conversely many domestic auto makers manufacture cars in Mexico, S Korea, and elsewhere.

So you're going to be patriotic towards foreign companies selling products in the US but not American companies selling products abroad?
I think he means he ain’t buying a vehicle made in China and being sold here. I surely wouldn’t, but I’d consider a Chinese brand if A. They were actually making decent cars (I don’t know if they do or not) and B. They are made here in the United States.

Van was made in Canada but we bought it used… I specifically chose a truck that was manufactured here in the States…. The engine is from Mexico and the transmission from Germany though.

Hmm, what about my Prologue? It's made in Mexico by GM, an American company, yet each month I pay Honda leasing for it.

It gets real confusing, real quick, what's American and what isn't.

That said, if you want to buy American for the sake of buying American, I don't think you can beat Tesla. I just wish they made something I liked the shape and style of and I'd definitely consider one in 2.5 years when my lease is up.

So you're going to be patriotic towards foreign companies selling products in the US but not American companies selling products abroad?
GM China is a joint venture with SAIC. SAIC owns 51%, GM 49%. So technically its a Chinese Company and a Chinese car with a GM badge. If you want to get technical.

Not intended to be sarcastic - just pointing it out. Most car companies are publicly traded, so we honestly don't know the nationality of who owns the shares. GM is traded in the US, but foreigners can also buy the stock?

Point of assembly is a good measure, IMHO.
