NASCAR Wheelin Late Model class
One of my friends is a crew chief in the above indicated class. He has been given a requirement to run a paper , not a fiber air filter.
This should be no problem, but due to track politics he has repeatedly been given grief about running an air filter he bought at the track last year, a supposedly legal filter.
I told him that he should just buy a new filter and be done with it, but he tells me that he has put a new filter in the car, but he wants to prove that the old filter was indeed paper, and by extension, that he and his team have been unfairly messed with by the track officials.
There are no markings on the filter at all, so we don't know who made it or what model it is.
My question is: how can you tell the difference between a paper filter element and a fiber one? Is there some sort of definition or description?
As an aside, the part I find confusing is that I always thought paper filters were fiber filters, and that the other types are cotton gauze, foam, oiled steel wool and oil bath (I may be missing one or two types, here).
For any of you air filter experts, please help!
